The Four Horsemen of Audio Recording
I posted a slightly revised version: The Four Horsemen of Audio Recording (time tested ways to kill your show) -- 1. Echoes and room reverberation (It will always sound like your show was in a barn.) -- 2. Overload and Clipping (Any sound that's too loud is permanently trashed.) -- 3. Compression Da...

Excellent. Meanwhile I'll paw through my notes that I made before they took the Win7 machine away from me. Koz

Re: No sound on playback
I changed your post to make it a little easier to read. I hope that's OK. When you plug something USB into a Windows machine, may times the machine will assume that you want to assign both speakers and microphone. You don't. You might use the Audacity Device Drop-Down to select your speakers or Outp...

Re: Problem recording Microphone in Stereo
What's suppose to happen is you get only one sound channel from your mono microphone. If you need both channels, Edit > Duplicate and Make Stereo with the drop-down on the left. What's happening to you is you have Concert Hall Effects running somewhere in the Windows Control Panels. It's creating an...

Re: Select tool not selective.
I actually have not had this problem, but as a forum elf, we've encountered it billions of times. Nobody's ever been able to replicate how this check box gets checked, however, and if you intentionally try to make selections skip with that tool, it doesn't work. [Twilight Zone Moment]
