Re: how to make an acapella version of a song on mac
You get one or more people to sing into a microphone without backing tracks or music. Vocal Isolation of an existing song is a nice idea but there are no tools that do a reasonable job. You stand a much better chance of making a karaoke track, music without the vocals, but that mostly fails, too. Ta...

Re: The Four Horsemen of Audio Recording
This is a terrible illustration because it's too complicated and it's actually two shoots, but I had to grab a shot before the mum of the room came in and chased us out with a stick. The right-hand section is a Rhode mic with echo suppressor and it plays into a Zoom H4, not shown. The headphones wer...

Re: The Four Horsemen of Audio Recording
I'm considering more detailed explanations of each one as a clickable link -- why each one is deadly. I know I write different versions of each one time after time. Also, I think I found a better tag line for #1. "Like you shot it in your mum's kitchen." <g> Another note on #1: Yesterday, ...

Re: Windows7 - Recording Using MS Sound Mapper
if people are that dumb they should leave computers alone. I'll tell me mum you said that. first time I have heard this excuse. You heard it here first. The other more conspiracy version of that is 'who benefits from the ability to capture internet shows and music?' Certainly no business I know. Mi...

Re: Windows7 - Recording Using MS Sound Mapper
looks like Microsoft is the needle in the haystack. Oh, it's not a mystery. The service is intentionally left out because it can screw up business communications. Windows is a business platform. Stability and repeatability is a big deal. Count the number of postings we get from people who left Ster...

Re: Sound won't work, but everything else does.
Did this happen right after you plugged in your USB turntable or other USB device? Audacity has a drop-down device manager where you can tell it where to put the sound so you can listen. It can get reassigned by accident and get lost. It's not unusual for Windows to try and send sound to a USB turnt...

Re: Efficient way to import a song list?
Audio CDs have this meta-data encoded on the disk. Everybody thinks that, but when you put a disk in your computer, the machine goes on-line and looks it all up. If you put that same disk in your car, it will say Track-01, Track-02, Track-03, unless your car is super whizzy and has internet access....

Re: Filtering frequency during recording
The early QuickTime system had a simple moving spectrum bar graph that jumped as audio was playing, but I think they peeled that off in the latest versions. Koz

Re: I can hear mic input through Realtek, but not when recor
How did you connect your microphone to your computer? Did you plug it into the Mic-In? What kind of computer do you have. Model number? I understand why the first test failed. That is a three-wire broadcast microphone and your sound card is a two-wire system. Unless you lucked out, it's actually wir...

Re: Extending a sound to cover voice
You should first try Effect > Normalize with only the Remove DC selected to the whole show before you start cutting. It doesn't work after. If that doesn't do it, you may need to be more careful how you match up the waves at the cut point. Zoom all the way into your cut point and make sure the waves...
