Win7 has conferencing service running by default and that can create problems with live music recording. Low volume, echo, talking in a sewer? That's probably it.

Re: Launch Audacity from Command Line into Auto-Record Mode
I don't think Audacity does anything from the command line, but we'll see what the other elves think.

Re: Vocals too faint...
This is all you need to do a perfect overdubbing sound-on-sound with the right USB microphone. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/samsonGTrackConnections.jpg Note the headphones are plugged into the microphone, not the computer. The microphone is doing all the processing and mixing independent o...

Re: Sound in all other programs, but suddenly none in Audaci
Neither have we. That's what's so strange about this. Apparently, everything is set correctly and all the other services on the machine work perfectly...but Audacity is silent. Reinstalling -- correctly -- doesn't help. By the way, this problem exists over multiple time zones, so nobody is jumping i...

Re: Vocals too faint...
The restriction is not that you can't hear the backing tracks and beats, you can hear those just fine and Audacity has provision to eliminate the production delays, but you won't be able to hear yourself in real time. Those delays are burned into the hardware. This is where you sing into the mic wit...

Re: Sound in all other programs, but suddenly none in Audaci
Cool. So this may be a Mac thing. I'll have many more machines to mess with at work.
But back to the thread. Why would one Windows install of Audacity be silent -- and right after a Windows Update?

Re: Cant get both channels to record
Mic-In on most computers is mono. The connection is such that you usually get Left and ignore Right. If you try really hard, you can get two Lefts at once. Your computer likely has no Stereo audio connection. We usually recommend a simple stereo audio USB adapter like the UCA-202. http://kozco.com/t...

Re: no internal effects?
Ordinarily, reinstalling would be a delightful thing to do...except in Audacity. To "reinstall" audacity, you have to change a Preference file and leave Audacity.app where it is.

Re: 24bit 96k FLAC files are not saving correctly
You can select the bitrate at export and I think the sample rate is set in Audacity Preferences. Koz

Re: 24bit 96k FLAC files are not saving correctly
Do you have Quicktime 7 from the back of your install disks in addition to QTX? Open your music file in QT7 and Command-I get info. Can it read the file and tell you the specifications? No, it won't. Never mind. Pull down and install VLC Player, I have version 1.1.7. Open the file and Command-I info...
