You don't see this?

Re: Suggest sound card for recording ~$200
Since you didn't post a job or type of recording, I would recommend our ever-popular Behringer UCA202. $30 USD. It does a very good job of stereo input/output and it has a headphone jack that allows you to perform perfect overdubbing/multi-track if you need that. It allows you to use cheaper analog ...

Re: A BIG THANK YOU!
I've been using Audacity for pretty much that exact thing for a long time. The latest session was one of our directors being interviewed for a radio broadcast. Which ProTools have you got and how much was it? Is the "key" a USB dongle? ProTools used to require a hardware interface panel to...

Re: monitor a tapedeck
If you click on the red recording meters, they will, after a second, wake up and monitor your recording levels without going into record. If you have Edit > Preferences > Recording > [X] Playthrough selected, then your speakers should work, too, and the green playback meters should bounce. This is n...

Re: spectrum plot unresponsive to filtering
If you have one particular thing you want to get rid of, Effect > Notch Filter may be better for you. You are also warned that low frequencies are a little magic because once you get down below 100 or so, all the waves look the same and they're really difficult to tell apart. Here's a software rumbl...

Did you really reinstall Audacity or did you just replace the app? "Reinstalling" Audacity requires you to leave the application alone and change a preference file.reinstalling Audacity

Re: Determine decibel levels at different frequencies.
Yes, Analyze > Plot Spectrum will do that. The only sticky part is finding a reference. You also should have a reference tone in the show so you have something to base zero on. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/piano_G1.jpg The latest analyzer looks better than this. This is an early one. The dB values...

Re: Burning A CD
Open the MP3 in Audacity and use the Change tools to get what you want. Change Tempo, Change Speed, Change Pitch. Then export the work as WAV (**not MP3**) and pull it into Windows Media or another Music CD Authoring and Burning program and burn the disk. Audacity doesn't burn anything. Music CD is ...
