Re: Grandma needs help with simple recording

You caught us a little at sea. Most people have one particular complaint or shortcoming and we can pick them off (to borrow a hunting analogy) efficiently and quickly. We're known for that, plus having elves in many different time zones helps, too. That wasn't your question. I'll try to follow this ...

Re: Can't record, no sound, no wave form

All that excellent information and we still don't know what you're recording. For example, recording your built-in microphone is very different from recording YouTube sound tracks. Look at the Device Toolbar near the top of the program and make sure what you're trying to record is listed and selecte...

Re: Split a Clip

Silence Finder and Sound Finder are not our favorite software. Old vinyl has no silence because of noise, dirt and pops. I'm going to get into trouble here, but traditionally, we told people to set a Label (Tracks > Add Label or the shortcut keys appropriate to your computer) at the beginning of eac...

Re: Audacity will not open

Did you have an earlier Audacity? You get the Spinning Beachball of Death when a program or process takes longer than it's supposed to. Anything magic about your drives? External Drives, USB Drives, Thumb Drives? When you downloaded Audacity, you expanded the .dmg file into a mounted drive on the de...

Re: Bug affecting Local Area Connection

How is your network connection achieved? Do you have a NIC in your deskside computer; does it have lights on it? What kind of computer is it? What's your network connection? Cable Modem? Phone Company DSL. Does your modem or switch have lights on it? My DSL modem has three lights: local connection, ...

Re: audacity wants PSP MixPack2 Authorization

selecting and dragging the Audacity folder within the mounted .dmg to Applications That's what's supposed to happen. Did you not get an audacity.app inside that folder? Have you ever bought PSP MixPack2? I got stuck with a bunch of unwanted software once when I downloaded a simple sound editor (oth...

The symptoms are that you're recording the built-in microphone.

Re: Cant export files, need help quickly

That can happen when you use punctuation marks in your filenames. Upper and lower case letters, numbers, underscore and dash are the only unconditionally safe characters in filenames. Never use dates. Today is not 6/23/12, it's 20120623.

Re: Recording from another site ?

Audacity isn't the problem. Audacity will record anything Windows presents to it. It's the presenting part that gets you into trouble.
