Re: Voice recording - playback muffled and quiet
There is one way out there possibility. Are you listening on a single speaker or through a mono mixdown? It's possible to produce sound that partially cancels out when two tracks are played at once. If you re-record a clip and then play both, computer delay may cause all sorts of weird effects -- ba...

Re: Voice recording - playback muffled and quiet
I lost that in the description. You're recording a stereo track and the voice is on the left, nothing on the right? Then you're recording a second stereo track by pressing stop and then record again, thereby giving you two tracks one above the other? Unless the Mute or Solo buttons are pressed, both...

Re: strange whistling and electronic noises
assuming you don't need to do multitrack recording or anything like that Even then. If you're careful with your hardware you can do a very respectable job overdubbing. http://manual.audacityteam.org/help/manual/man/tutorial_recording_multi_track_overdubs.html But of course, most of us don't have so...

Re: Repair/Recover distant audio, remove buzzing noise
Just to cover the bases, you went right around the method you use to connect the tape machine to your computer. How did you do that -- in detail.

Re: Repair/Recover distant audio, remove buzzing noise
That's not a foreign signal like a buzz. That's what happens when you have intense distortion in a voice track. The voice creates its own damage. I don't know that I've ever heard an audio tape do that, but I've seen plenty of audio amplifiers do it. I wondered about your other sample, the one on th...

That's the identify part, but not the mark mart of the job. Koz"mark areas where the peaks are less than N samples apart."

if I knew how to program. You could learn. Nyquist is a good language to start out and there are three sections of the forum just about programming. http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewforum.php?f=19 http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewforum.php?f=39 http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewforum.php?f=21 Koz

Re: strange whistling and electronic noises
That's almost certainly trash generated by the electronics inside your computer. Nobody is going to award Windows laptops any prizes for sound quality and this is one of the problems they have. There is an enormous amount of high power electrical activity inside a laptop and it all makes noise. That...

Re: Microphone setup? not working
What happens when you plug your earbuds/headphones into the Art Dual Pre?
If you yell into the microphone (Do Not Blow), can you get the signal or overload lights on the Art Pre?
This doesn't have a power light, does it?

Re: Comparing SPL or measuring SPL with Audacity?
...with one of these... http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12680845 Radio Shack has been offering an SPL meter for years. I have the older analog one and the company has the early digital version. You do need to be careful with fans. You need to measure the noise without getting t...
