The top edit is a bad one and will sound funny or click at the edit point. The bottom edit should go by with nobody noticing anything wrong except the pitch of the tone changed.

I'm in production mode, not diagnostic mode, but I turned on that selector and stopped losing work beyond the graphic border, so it must be working. I'll do actual cause and effect testing now that my jobs are out the door.

One more. Do you have Just the Microphone selected in the Device Toolbar? You should be using a real touchable device like Mic-In and not one of the software Made-Up devices like Stereo Mix.
