Audacity crashing is very different from the machine crashing around Audacity. If you're are really using Audacity 2.x and the show didn't come back, then there may not be a show there to come back to.

Any idea why the machine failed?

The computer I'm using is a Mac Pro, as was the computer I replaced it with. All I did to switch over, was pull my hard drives from the old MP and inserted them into the new MP since the drive sleds were the same.

Why did you do that? More memory? Faster Processor?

When I launch Audacity I get the beachball for about :20 seconds. Is that normal? No, it's not. If you open a Project which doesn't have local sound, it should launch in seconds. It's possible you're using legacy Audacity Preferences, never a good idea. Scroll down in this page to see how to reset Audacity.

Here's a note from another web site.

I do a bit of recording and usually bounce my tracks to 16bit WAVs because Windows Media Player doesn't support 24bit WAV out of the box and I couldn't find the right codecs.
