Re: transferring DATs with Tascam US-144mkII via SPDIF

I was hoping that one was optical digital and the other was coax, but no, you should be able to plug one right into the other. The mixer/interface has no meters, so you're stuck. I'd be dragging out my scopes and meters to make sure the signal is there. As it stands, that or testing with another dig...

Re: Incredible voice isolation, but can't figure it out...

I have no idea how he managed to achieve it that well, here are the samples : It sounds like a particularly good application of Noise Gate. http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Nyquist_Effect_Plug-ins#Noise_Gate "I don't know how they did it" puts you in Urban Legend territory. It's a comple...

Re: -26 dB mic level readings at dead silence [?]

It's kind of a thought experiment. It has to go through development and engineering first and then on to production and marketing. It can't take much more than two or three years and I imagine the first product will be $80 to $100. Koz

Re: Start up with Mac

If you're on Lion, then, no, the pictures may not line up. As a first step, Audacity > Preferences > Recording. Make sure Overdub.., Hardware..., and Software... are all turned off. Then, on the device toolbar near the top of Audacity, make sure you're recording from the iMic and not the internal mi...

Re: Audacity file said to be missing audio

Since it played correct the first time, it must be something you did. Audacity Projects can be configured not to make personal, internal copies of music. If you use a tune in your show, Audacity just points to it at the right time, wherever it is on your computer, and it plays. If you delete, rename...

Re: Combining Recordings From Two Devices

OK, two claps. Exactly ten minute apart -- or longer -- not using the computer clock. Figure out which one is off. If you play your cards right, they'll both be off in different directions. It should make no difference at all, but is one set to 44100, and the other 48000? One is Music CD standard an...

Re: -26 dB mic level readings at dead silence [?]

Are you sure you're getting your Audacity from the right place? http://audacityteam.org/download/ No, the file or pathname should not have "google" in it anywhere. The point behind that little USB audio adapter is cheap equipment usually has terrible quality control. I had to buy two to ge...

Re: -26 dB mic level readings at dead silence [?]

Back to sound for a minute. All of us can get clipping. The digital audio system gets so loud that it runs out of numbers. Clipping or digital overload sounds pretty bad and for the most part, it's permanent. We have a ClipFix tool, but in general, if it's loud enough to interfere with the show, it'...

Re: Input Channel Select Audio Recording FA-66

Oh. One more. Go > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup and see if there's anything you can do in there. That's a good place to manage sound channels not covered in the System. Koz
