Re: Audacity not picing up sound
Audacity will not save a sound file. It saves Projects which are collections of files that make up your show. If you need a stand-alone, "real" sound file, you have to File > Export one. WAV is a good, high quality format for production and further editing. MP3 is the format for posting an...

Re: Audio Quality On Home Videos.
Audacity can recognize many different video formats if you install the FFMpeg software add-on. http://audacityteam.org/download/ If the camera saved the video in a special camera format, then you'll need something to convert. Audacity will not export into any video formats. How were you planning on ...

It will go looking for audio if you don't say something for a long time, so if you have a dramatic presentation, you can t...

Re: Help regarding 2.0.1
Unless you have a very unusual laptop, the Mic-In is fundamentally incompatible with the stereo connections, even if you did find it. Generally, we recommend adding a stereo connection with a simple USB sound device like the UCA-202 or equivalent. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/peaveyUCA202L...

Re: Envelope Tool vs. Hard Limiter
There's one in the middle. Effect > Leveler. And for an overall broadcast compression effect, Chris' Compressor. I use it at compression of 0.77 instead of the default 0.5.

Re: Crackling when I record overdub
Can you post a segment of crackles? Not the original track, just one of the ones that's damaged. http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=64936 Ordinarily, we would jump right on this and say you had an underpowered machine to handle multiple directions of live sound, but you have a ne...

Re: transferring DATs with Tascam US-144mkII via SPDIF
Particularly if you can get it all to work with the mixer analog input but not the digital. It almost has to be the digital DAT link in some way. There are no convenient shortcuts for testing digital. You can't touch it with wet fingers and hear it buzz. I would send you off to a Mac, but they have ...
