That's our standing joke. By the time you realize you need to rescue the show, it's too late.

Re: Recording with noise I cannot avoid
I wish it were that easy. So do we. Click on Layers and scroll down to Noise and deselect it. [OK] I can give you fuzzy concepts. The two that have the most reaction are Reduction and Smoothing. 6dB, 12dB, and 24dB are natural graceful values of reduction. If you get much beyond that, the show is g...

Re: Recording form Usb Turntable into Audacity on Mac
Close Audacity. Plug in the turntable and turn it on. Apple > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Input. Do you see "USB Audio Device" or something similar. select it. Play something and see that the blue ball sound meter jumps. If you don't get that, then there is a turntable or syste...

Re: many tiny files instead of one
Because you didn't tell Audacity you wanted a sound file. You saved an Audacity Project with a project manager file and a folder with production snippets. To get a real sound file, you have to Export one. File > Export > WAV (Microsoft) signed 16-bit PCM. That will produce a sound file which should ...

Re: Recording with noise I cannot avoid
First I'd like to suggest strongly that baby crying and dogs barking are a good way to kill your show. We can't take those out. Air conditioner noise is possible, but only if it's in the background. There is a three to one rule. The performance has to be three times closer to the microphone or three...

Re: Audacity Crash On Launch - Mountain Lion
Audacity tries to create that configuration file as a way to record what it was doing when it woke up. If it can't do that, it won't wake up. It appears to be down to permissions issues in that folder. Are you an administrator or were you when you installed Audacity?

Re: recording voice in 8Khz format
Try recording the work at your normal standards and convert it later. Change the sample rate with the little window at the lower left and File > Export normally. It's possible you may need to tailor your voice quality ahead of the conversion. 8KHz will not support high voice quality and crispness mu...

Re: USB Needledrop?
Close Audacity. Plug in the turntable and it should announced itself to the system as a "USB Audio Device" or words to that general effect. Start Audacity and the Device Toolbar should have a listing for that new device. Don't do that out of order. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/devi...

Re: Lighthouse Family question
An error that small could be down to how they counted the fades on both ends. A cassette version of the same song is likely to be far worse off due to the error on the tape management. Unless you have a Nakamichi or other fine deck, tape speed regulation is awful.
