Re: Help with Cathedral Reverb

Reverbation, or echo in this case is not Audacity's strong suit.

Re: bypassing USB port for USB turntable

mic in jack on front of the computer. The Mic-In jack is not a general purpose Audio Input. For one thing it's mono, not stereo and it's easy to distort the sound. Windows can't find the turntable if you plug it in and go to Windows Control Panels? Forget Audacity for a while. If Windows can't find...

Re: Inconsistent volume

Do the loud and soft parts seem to line up with the show? Like every time Fred speaks it's too low and every time there's music it's too high? Or does the show go up and down and there doesn't seem to be any reason?

Re: Filter for loudness and softness

Amplify and Normalize do not change the work within the show. Just the overall show. Try Chris's Compressor. http://theaudacitytopodcast.com/chriss-dynamic-compressor-plugin-for-audacity/ That's a broadcast compressor and is designed to even out voices and music inside the show. It does make the sho...

Re: Audacity adds hiss to export.

Probably dithering noise. A tiny bit of noise is added to the show so that conversion errors between two seriously different formats don't line up. The noise breaks them up and is usually desirable. People get in trouble with Audacity all the time when they depend on it being a surgical WAV editor. ...

Re: sudden appearance of recording latency

Which latency changed? There are two. Recording Latency is the one where you sing in perfect time and rhythm but the recording is off. The other is you sing and your own voice comes back to you echoey and late.

Re: Best Acoustic Instrument Recording for MacBook to Audaci

This one's applicable to what you're doing. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/apr10/articles/acguitar.htm We did an extensive guitar recording thread on the forum. This should shortcut all the questions you're going to ask. Have a read through this. I believe it's still the longest thread on the forum...

Re: Best Acoustic Instrument Recording for MacBook to Audaci

I want to record single acoustic instruments in the highest possible quality to my MacBook using Audacity. The highest possible quality for $30 usd. That's what most people mean. This is an area of recording fraught with problems. The obvious solution is a USB condenser professional, broadcast, etc...

Re: Best Acoustic Instrument Recording for MacBook to Audaci

The Mac input is Optical Digital and stereo analog Line-In. Neither will directly support a microphone. Your microphone is probably (without a model number) delivering a really tiny signal to a connection expecting a powerful robust stereo signal like the one from a mixer or a cassette player. http:...

Re: Re-encoding multiple mp3's to a lower bitrate

Audacity has a "batch" process called Chains about which I know very little except I think it's right down your alley. This is what it says in the instructions. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/batch_processing.html A note about MP3. MP3 is a destructive process. It gets its small file...
