Re: Trouble with second track

Large production tape machines (video and audio) were/are always on. They also carried the visual clue of moving reels and intense red and green lighted buttons to tell you that you were in record, play or stop. The Broadcast Standard Definition and High Definition television tape machines work this...

Re: Problem with a project crush

Audacity projects have a matching AUP file and a _DATA folder. The AUP file is the show manager and tells Audacity how to use the work inside the _DATA folder. Sometimes you can save a damaged simple recording with the recovery tools and without the AUP file. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/rec...

Re: Recording Phone Conversations through handset or headpho

There are certainly ways to cheat. Host the calls on a deskset telephone conference unit and place a computer microphone half-way between the telephone speaker and the human operator. Of course, you need to do this in a dead quiet room or studio. We do a version of this at work when we need to recor...

Re: Recording Phone Conversations through handset or headpho

No. The only reliable way to implement something like that is a Broadcast Telephone Hybrid (call-in talk show) at multiple hundreds of dollars. I have two different Radio Shack "telephone recorder" devices and they're useless, unstable or both. There is one method that has very good succes...

Re: Audacity large file size

AIFF and WAV are uncompressed, undamaged, perfect formats. This is where you want to be for effects, filters, and sound processing. After you're convinced you have the perfect show or shows, then you can export as one of the compressed formats like MP3 or M4A. MP3 and M4A are delivery formats and al...

Re: Recorded Sound Is Very Quiet or Drops Out...

Windows comes out of the box with Windows Enhanced Services running. It seems to do strange and unpredictable things, but it's purpose is to configure the sound system for voice conferencing -- not music. Go into Control Panels > Sound and de-select anything that says "Automatic" or "...

Re: Microphone echo

You can't do live recording without headphones, so that's one problem, and you need to be recording directly from your microphone and not Stereo-Mix, Wave-Out of one of the other odd devices you use to record internet audio. Select in the Audacity Device Toolbar. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man...

Re: podcasts

If the podcast is available, just pull it out of iTunes onto your desktop. Open with Audacity. If the open step fails, you may need to install the FFMpeg software package. http://audacityteam.org/download/ If iTunes will not let you pull the podcast out, then you need to play it and record it in Aud...
