Re: A few beginners questions about Audacity

cars, trucks, wind, birds and other such things Hiss is difficult, but wind, birds, etc. are impossible. i have been recoring in stereo and logicly this recording was louder Logical, but not quite right. Music systems play a whole copy of one mono track to each speaker. They don't divide it half an...

Re: Chapters in audio files like m4a

You didn't use the words: "I installed the FFMpeg software." Did you? Audacity won't do much without that. FFMpeg might very well support what you seek.

It's in the download section along with "lame" and other software add-ons.

Re: How do I record a radio station?

Is this really that complicated? Yes. Self-recording is not a guaranteed service like 'send video to the screen', 'send audio to the speakers', and 'record from the microphone.' Nowhere in the instructions for your computer do they mention self-recording and some of the newer computers do not suppl...

Re: Mixing Board not working

Step one is stop using a USB hub. Go for a home run to the computer. The only way hubs can be valuable is to eliminate USB computer power problems by using a wall-powered hub with nothing else plugged in. Audio doesn't share well. Step two disconnect both USB devices. Wait until the system settles d...

Re: corrupted wav file

Our standard line is Audacity is a complete slave to whatever the computer is doing. If the computer does not deliver a good, stable, complete file to Audacity, there isn't anything we can do. Contact Tascam or see if they have a web site with Frequently Asked Questions. I can't believe you're the f...

Re: Error Message: Couldn't find the project data folder

I did that between the haircut and shopping for a fruit basket. Also please remember that if you catch it just right, the question has to ripple around the earth once. I'm in sunny, warm Los Angeles, but many of the elves are in a rainy city somewhere in England. That's what, nine hours that way [po...

Re: consider me a noob. Downloaded audacity and....

It seems there's a lot of hate for audacity out there Where? Overdubbing/Multi-track/Sound-On-Sound can be pretty heavy going. That's why we strongly recommend making sure you master straight recording before you start messing with multiple sound pathways. Click Track isn't "recorded." Yo...

Re: changing ouput level

I can't recommend Chris's Compressor enough. It brings up the quiet parts, suppressed the loud parts, tames the peaks and brings up the overall volume all in one step. I know you're used to hearing the music that way, but every time you compress or translate between compressed music formats, the qua...

Logitec USB desktop microphone
Yes. Terrific microphone, but it's aggressively directional. Good for voices, although I have shot music with it.

Re: crosstalk cancelation

I bet you could get very similar effects with careful matrixing within Audacity. Audacity records music straight from stereo microphones as Left and Right. FM Stereo Radio doesn't work like that. FM Stereo transmits two signals, but they're not Left and Right. The Main FM signal is Left and Right ad...
