Re: end of file opens as silence
47.6 MB It's not 47 MB. Windows Media files are or can be very highly compressed. When Audacity opens them, they explode to their real size -- or bigger than that because Audacity works with files internally at a very high uncompressed quality. An hour stereo show could be over 700MB - 1GB. Are you...

Re: Recording problems?
There is another problem: when I'm recording (using headphones of course) I hear myself late, and that can't happen. That does happen. That's computer delay and that's the one delay that can't be easily changed. That's why the three hardware devices we tested all have the headphones connected to th...

Re: very low volume when recording
If this is one of the microphones that already has a 1/4" or 1/8" plug on the end, it could still have the wrong one. I can't tell from the catalog. No pictures.

Re: very low volume when recording
It's almost certain that you have the wrong adapter to plug your dynamic (moving coil) microphone into your computer. This is the proper adapter. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/UnbalBalAdapter.jpg Note that the XLR has three holes (connections) but the 1/8" only has two connections, sleeve and ...

Re: How to get tracks to play through microphone headphone i
That's a cousin to this microphone. http://wiki.audacityteam.org/w/images/5/5a/SamsonGTrackConnections.jpg This mic has switching to let you control the sound both directions into your headphones. This is one of the tested and certified hardware solutions that allow you to do Perfect Overdubbing. In...

Re: Disable noise cancallation for Windows 7?
Same thing. Start > Control Panels > Sound or whatever it is on your machine. The Win7 machine at work has a panel that invites me to apply noise reduction in three or five jumps of increasing effect. You want OFF. I think the panels change slightly depending on your computer. http://manual.audacity...

I read through the requirements. You're trying to make a system that recognizes human speech and separates it from not human speech (noise and interference).
I'll watch.

Re: AC 2.0.2/Win7-64b -> no GUI at all to be seen!
Anyone else here had this probelm and manage to solve it? Nobody else is running three monitors. Audacity likes running on simple, plain computers which is not what you have. I bet it runs fine on your mom's laptop. So you hit a special case. I don't know that there is a resolution. Others will pos...

Re: unwanted phaser efect when recording ??? HELP !
One other point. If you're trying to overdub or play sound-on-sound, make sure you're recording Just Your Microphone. Check this in the Audacity Tool Bar Dropdown. If you like recording internet audio, the device for that is Stereo-Mix, WAV-Out, or What-U-Hear, not a microphone. If you try overdubbi...

Re: unwanted phaser efect when recording ??? HELP !
This usually happens with Win7 and Vista. In those two, Windows has voice conferencing compensation sometimes called "Enhanced Services." It tries to kill any sound that exists for over five to seven seconds assuming that it's air conditioning noises and needs to be stamped out. They gener...
