Re: using USB cable to the Mac

[But there is no 'OK' button to press.] Mac in general don't use OK buttons. That's a Windows thing. But the record line is flat and nothing is recorded. Flat, or just really, really low? Drag-select a portion of the work and Effect > Amplify > OK. Do you just get noise, or does nothing at all happ...

http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/RCAMiniStereo.jpg But, if you're on a Windows laptop, chances are good you're not going to have a good stereo input. You're more likely to have just Mic-In and Headphone-Out like this. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/PCLaptopSound.jpg Mic-In is mono and easi...

Re: White Noise / Static (Another one)

We have to get around the idea that you can put little pieces of tape on the controls and that's where they always live. The adjustments are to account for differing conditions and equipment -- and they move. Low level noise and hiss is always present and your job is to make the show loud enough so ...

Re: Trying to record chat with a USB input.

It's hard to believe that the game console has a Stereo Line-Out suitable for plugging into a recorder. So what did the 2.5mm originally do? Is that where you plug your headset or other game sound device? If it is, then you need to figure out which rings and connections on the plug actually have the...

Re: Distortion Caused by Too Much Mic Gain - Can This Be Rem

See number two. -- The Four Horsemen of Audio Recording (reliable, time-tested ways to kill your show) -- 1. Echoes and room reverberation (Don't record the show in your mom's kitchen.) -- 2. Overload and Clipping (Sound that's too loud is permanently trashed.) -- 3. Compression Damage (Never do pro...

Re: Lots of Distortion With Recording

Yes, but microphones aren't stereo, unless yours is special. They're mono. Your microphone should show up in the Windows Control Panels as USB Sound Device or something like that. If you can't find it, Audacity may never find it. Plug the microphone in, start Audacity (in that order) and use the Aud...

Re: "Bleeping" out a word

You can use Audacity to zoom into the offending word's blue waves, drag-select them and Control-L make them silent.

Re: quicker methods of editing

What you probably did was record the calls and save them. That produces an Audacity Project, not a sound file. To get a stand-alone, standard sound file, you have to Export one. If you do that, then you can set Audacity up to import a pile of WAV sound files very quickly and Export a new show, proba...
