Re: Real Audacity 101 as in knowing nothing :(
Microphones are rough to use. Microphone signals are very small and easily damaged. SoundCard amplifiers have distortion and hiss noise because they're cheap, inexpensive, and they don't cost very much. A full-on, high-performance Windows sound card purchased separately can go for $100. And that's j...

Re: Listening to what Audacity is hearing, when not recordin
Software Playthrough is the only one needed unless your are doing fancy audio production and overdubbing. Turn Hardware and Overdub off. When everything is set up to record, click once inside the red recording meters and the speakers and meters will wake up and let you set levels and listen to the w...

Re: Distorted Recording
You should keep an eye on the red recording meters during the show. They should never go all the way up. Keep reducing the recording volume until that meter is happy. You can process, compress, and play games with the quality and loudness later, but once you overload and distort, that's the end of t...

Re: Cracking, skipping, and distorted sounds when I record.
The main difference is your camcorder is a purpose-built recorder and your computer isn't. Are you going into a USB hub at the computer? We don't have anything that directly addresses this other than the fuzzy overview that the computer isn't going fast enough to capture the work. A particularly agg...

Re: Can Audacity restore my mutilated vocal recording?
I can see why you wouldn't want to do it again. "The party of the first part, hertofore known as the legatee..." That's not recoverable and it has some very interesting problems. The most obvious one is normal voices don't look like that on the timeline. It's highly compressed and squeezed...

Re: Problem with hearing myself/monitor issue
Do you have the headphones plugged into the FastTrack? The three hardware solutions we tested to do "perfect overdubbing" all have the headphones connected to the device, not the computer. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/peaveyUCA202Lenovo.jpg If your FastTrack has bi-directional mo...
Re: effects
Yes. Using the drop-down on the left of the track, Split Stereo Track. Select one track > Apply the effect. Drop-down again > Make Stereo Track.

Re: Unable to record because of a discontinuing sound.
Audacity does not understand ASIO, so if you have ASIO services running at the same time as Audacity, the combination could be unstable. Koz
