Re: Help with USB mic issues
Audacity Preferences. Edit > Preferences > Recording > [ ] Playthrough (de-select). You can do overdubbing and sound-on-sound just fine with almost any computer, but you can't listen to the computer. You have to listen to the sound device or microphone. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/samson...

Re: Running live audio from device to website
Audacity doesn't do anything in real time and it doesn't play well with other audio programs. You might experiment with not using the Mic-In on your processing computer. That's very sensitive and prone to overloading and distortion. Try using the blue Stereo Line-In instead and turn that up instead ...

Re: Clipping, hot input problem
I'm not. The MXL is designed for high and low level microphones. Those levels are still miles lower than anything you're likely to get from your music system. I'm assuming you're doing a mix in your amp and feeding that to the MXL. That part isn't clear. Also, it's not unusual for a microphone ampli...

Re: Please Recommend an "Audacity Friendly" Laptop
We may be revisiting the USB adapters that failed. In particular, the UCA-202 has very wide success. I'm placing multiple units in our company to record voices and conference systems in combination with mixing boards and other sound services. Live Stereo Recording is not The Mode to use a French ter...

Re: Tinny sound on ripped LPs - First project
Tinny and low volume is the exact description of music if you play a vinyl record "flat" without any RIAA compensation. Bass notes will not fit in a vinyl groove, so they are reduced before pressing the disk. It's your job to put them back which is exactly what the Phono Preamp with RIAA d...

The iTunes teaser segment doesn't include any special effects, but if you need a telephone filter, this will get you close.

Re: What would you like in a multichannel sound card?
I was thinking of designing a multichannel usb soundcard. Why? Do you have the equipment to test a microphone amplifier? How about dual-tone intermodulation testing? RF Suppression -- Part 15 certification in the US? Past the design problems, you're going to spend a year or two performing all the d...

Re: Need help with background noise
The newer Macs have a setting in Apple > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Recording called something like "Auto Noise Suppression." If you're trying to do a high-quality theatrical recording, you should turn that off.

Re: Fixing Clicks Between Tracks When Combined into One
There are two problems and we can't tell where your popping is coming from, so we're trying to solve everything. DC Level Problems are when you stop talking and the blue waves do not settle at 0 but either too high or too low. That's what Remove DC fixes. That first illustration with the gentle up a...

Re: Fixing Clicks Between Tracks When Combined into One
Can you be a bit more specific please? We had the bad form to include DC level correction inside the Normalize tool. You don't actually want to normalize anything. That will change the loudness. I should have been clearer. You only want the DC removal tool. Gale's suggestion was a more automated wa...
