How much memory do you have? How may other applications and services were running?
This may be a problem with the 32/64 thing. Why did you notice that you had to upgrade?
This isn't a fresh install of WIn7, right? It's an upgrade?

Re: how do I record phone interviews
I thought the 3.5mm plug was relatively universal, smart phone or not. The plug size may be, but have you looked closely at the number of gold rings on a cellphone headset? You still need to pay attention when you go into a phone store to buy accessories. land lines are more or less dead I had a di...

Re: Trouble with new WordPress site
That's misleading. What happens is we get tons of people trying to do podcasts with specific (and some not so specific) questions and we try to guide hither and yon as needed. I don't think any of us actually has a podcast of any sort. I'm the closest with my own web site... kozco.com and I maintain...

Re: Audio interface question.
I suspect nobody here has either of those, so we're left with the general rule that any stereo device that works under Windows and Mac should work with Audacity. Audacity gets its cues from the computer. It doesn't maintain its own environment. It's a sign of trouble if the unit has special drivers ...

Re: Batch editing question
Do you have a gasper doing a lecture? I'm going with no. Audacity only has one waveform recognizer and that's Noise Reduction. You could try it. Drag select one gasp and use that as the profile step. Then apply noise reduction to the whole show, or a significant portion of it and see what happens. Koz

Re: Interference
You missed an important step when you didn't tell us how the tape machine is connected to the computer. If it's by analog cable, you should connect the analog cable but leave the tape machine turned off. That's the actual noise floor that the work will be competing with. I don't remember if this app...

Re: how do I record phone interviews
Plug one into your headset plug on your phone So that's your cell phone, and not landline and not Skype. You can't make assumptions when you start asking questions like that. I suspect what the more expensive unit does is completely take the place of a communications headset. Not only do you have t...

You should immediately stop putting masking tape and magic marker labels on the sliders. The red recording meters and the blue waves should look something like this during a successful recording. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/Audacity1_record.jpg If your red recording meters aren't that wide and cl...

Re: HELP! Audacity is flatlining!
So you want us to fix your internet connection? Audacity is a complete slave to whatever the computer is doing. If the computer can't reach the internet, then you may get flat lines instead of shows. Did you plug or unplug anything USB at the computer or try to run Skype? Both of those will seriousl...

Re: Synchronising Hydrogen in Audacity
You know you can buy an SMPTE generator and record it on one track of Audacity? From there, you can play that back in "multi-track" configuration to whatever equipment needs it. http://www.ese-web.com/smpte.htm Audacity doesn't natively support any sync or TC and doesn't generate SMPTE. On...
