Fire up your studio and record a ten second "clean" sound test. Post it here.

We can't take effects, filters or corrections out of a sound file. We have to start somewhere.

Re: Stuff is being recorded but way too quietly.
Find out from the instructions where the computer microphone is, start a recording and scratch it. If the sound is coming from the tape machine, that won't make any noise. If the microphone is running, it will make loud noises.

Re: Exporting multiple tracks as one file
We should remember a legacy problem that Audio CDs have. They don't carry song titles. There wasn't room when they were designing the format. When you play a CD, the player goes on-line and tries to figure out what the titles are—and it can get them wrong. No, my ratty electric organ solo was not pe...

Re: Feedback request
ACX expects everything to match. So the beginning and end of each chapter, the chapters to each other, and the beginning and end of the book. It's not unusual for new readers to get to the end of a book a "seasoned professional" and are horrified at the quality of the first few chapters. A...

Re: ACX Guidelines and mp3 export (Really sorry this is a dim question)
A few words about the kind of book. Two forum posters recently asked about their work. One was reading a cookbook and the other wanted to publish their yoga chants. Neither would have made it past the book type specification. Scroll down. https://www.acx.com/help/200878270 Oddly, the yoga chants may...

Re: i need help
Audacity usually comes out on the bottom if there's conflict with keyboard mapping. The solution may be start Audacity recording first and then edit out all the extra time after you're done. You might also find you can't capture game sound and your voice at the same time. Capture the game in Audacit...

Re: ACX Guidelines and mp3 export (Really sorry this is a dim question)
I really don't want to proceed through the whole of the book No. Don't do that, either. You can post a ten second, sample reading to the forum and we can evaluate it. https://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/TestClip/Record_A_Clip.html Read down the blue links. They're very short. The little number on t...

Re: Moving voices from right to left
moving from speaker on the right to the centre and then to the left. That's not as theatrically desirable as you think. That specific effect will sound really disorienting if the audience is listening on headphones. Real Life doesn't go all the way across like that. You can tell when someone is lis...

Re: Feedback request
Missed one. - Record the chapter (I use punch and roll) - When done with the chapter, listen to the entire chapter again, checking for missed/changed words, breaths, other noises. - Edit as needed. - Apply Audiobook Mastering - Listen again and do a final QC - this is where sometimes I hear things I...
