Re: Loud Source, Noisy recording, what gives?

That's what's so darn much fun about this. Everything is working but not quite right. You did say a couple of things needing comment. that large diaphragm mic sending too strong/complex a signal Conventionally, Condenser Microphones are called large, medium and small diaphragm depending on their con...

Re: Loud Source, Noisy recording, what gives?

OK, you did the legwork. The recording does sound harsh and you can get that if you overload the microphone or the mic channel. Most microphones can't sit in front of a guitar cabinet running full steam. They're going to overload something. This system is designed to gracefully record your grandma r...

Re: Two formats in saved project, one won't export

Could the difference in appearance be you opened two different versions of Audacity? If the early version was old enough, that would have worked, but may be unstable. You should make sure that you only have and use the 2.0 version. That's the only way I know of to get Audacity that looks different. ...

Re: Purchasing a Microphone

To be clear, that was not a USB microphone. That was an AKG, a sound mixer and Mac recorder. I have full control of everything in the shoot including the room. I think that was this day..

Re: Purchasing a Microphone

One of the editors here is a jazz guitarist, so I have an unfortunate comparison down the hall. On the up side, I have a test subject any time I want one. He's not an acoustic guitarist. He only does this because I ask him to.

Re: Loud Source, Noisy recording, what gives?

Are you listening to the track on headphones from the computer? One of the ways we diagnose problems is to split the system apart and see if each part works like it's supposed to. All I hear -- on quality headphones -- Is you doing fancy fingering on a guitar. I can hear string squeak, harmony strin...

Re: bit rate

Audacity doesn't edit MP3 downloads. What it does is open the music in its own very high quality internal music format and edit that, then it creates a whole new sound file. If it creates a very high quality wav file, it will come out 30MB for three minutes. You can't ever go back to the original co...

Re: Equalization and echo get modified during exportation !

when I listen to that new wav file for instance, the sound is completely different How are you listening to the music? Let's stick to WAV files until we fix the problem. WAV files have no natural distortion unlike MP3. If you Import the guitar music export back into Audacity, is it good? When you r...

Re: Loud Source, Noisy recording, what gives?

It seems clean to me, too past some minor peak distortion. I don't hear anything odd or unusual. How are you listening to it? Can you listen on somebody else's computer as a test. I hear a "room echo" effect like a "stage" or "concert" setting. Did you intend that? It's...

Re: How to split a long recording

Place a label at the Beginning of each track you want as a separate sound file. File > Export Multiple.

The other way is a bit more time consuming. Drag-Select a portion of the timeline and File > Export Selected.

There are more painful ways to do it, but those two are pretty popular.
