Re: [2.0.2/Win] Tips on cleaning up audio?

If you ever watched/listened to Rachel Maddow, she has a Noise Gate on her voice. Podcast: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/ns/msnbc_tv-rachel_maddow_show/ She has, as she puts it, a crappy cable news show, so even though it looks like a studio, it's actually a large noisy room and you regularly...

Re: [2.0.2/Win] Tips on cleaning up audio?

Noise Gate tries to suppress any sound lower than a set value. http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Nyquist_Effect_Plug-ins#Noise_Gate http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Download_Nyquist_Plug-ins#Installing_Plug-ins I guess we never wrote anything on Noise Removal settings. Noise Removal tries to subtra...

Re: [2.0.2/Win] Tips on cleaning up audio?

You almost have all four. We can't do anything about echoes (1), we can't slit up a recording into individual performers - background sound (4) and we can't do anything about compression damage (3). The Four Horsemen of Audio Recording (reliable, time-tested ways to kill your show) -- 1. Echoes and ...

Re: I'm a novice

Audacity can create laboratory test tones Generate > Tone and some other sounds, but we have no ability to create music like a piano. Is that what you want? at my home and I can't remove the noise. People who record at home find how noisy their home really is. You might be able to record your piano ...

Re: Pops at edit points

Write back when you find it. It's my opinion that waveform cross is almost never serious and DC offset is far more likely to cause problems. DC will cause a robust pop or thunk in the show whereas a waveform cross error at best produces a very brief, tiny "tick" and if the show is loud eno...

Right. Punctuation Marks.
Stay away from dates. Today is not 11/24/12. It's 20121124.

Re: Lowering/Raising Two Different Voices

Well, not automatically, no. You can use the Envelope Tool (two white arrows and bent blue line) to place volume control "rubber bands" in the show. You can pull the rubber bands up and down -- manually -- word by word to correct the volumes. Here's an example of a cross-fade. The little d...

Started with version 1.2.1, and I'm sticking with it.

Re: How do I get rid of the "click"

It's most likely you have DC Offset in one track and not the other -- or maybe both. It doesn't take much to produce a click or pop. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/DCOffset.jpg You can get rid of that by Effect > Normalize > Remove DC (don't let the tool do anything else). The trick is you have ...

Re: Recording Guitar at same time as a mp3 plays?

Audacity only does its overdubbing trick if the first -- the playback -- track is already on Audacity. It has to manage the timing and Recording Latency to get everything to come out right on the tracks. If you try to record a foreign sound file and your live performance at once, you produce a mixed...
