Re: can mp3 be inadvertently altered once exported to itunes
Don't use the same filename. Was it a protected file? Did it have FairPlay® on it? I process off-air radio shows and do downloads within iTunes and in spite of some stupid errors, iTunes has never changed anything -- that I know of. I always change the file type and never use the old filename. Pay a...

Re: Distorted sound using a laptop combo jack
Now we're in doo-doo because I don't have a Win7 machine. We need to wait for an elf that does. I can look at work. There's no reason the UCA and the UFO should mount differently. They're the same chipset except one has a phono amplifier built-in. Can you point to that posting? We may be able to tra...

Re: Rip music from DVD
Probably the easiest way is set up to record "Music Playing On The Computer" and just play the DVD and press record in Audacity. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tutorial_recording_audio_playing_on_the_computer.html If you don't do it that way, you need DVD ripper software and an addit...

Re: Won't SAVE work in ANY format;crashed, thenCUT toolcorru
Audacity doesn't save sound files. To get one of them you have to Export one. File > Export > WAV (Microsoft) SIgned 16-bit PCM. Those are large, perfect, good for further production, uncompressed sound files that will open up on all three major computing platforms. You can also export an MP3, but y...

Re: Distorted sound using a laptop combo jack
The way big majority of Windows laptops have a Mic-In that's mono, not stereo and produces distortion if you try to plug anything other than a microphone into it. For those people, we recommend the Behringer UCA202 stereo audio adapter or equivalent. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/peaveyUCA2...

Re: start multiple instances
We're pretty much all horrified you're still using Audacity 1.3 for anything. The Audacity 2 series are much more stable and will survive a crash much better.

Re: start multiple instances
Audacity has minimal Terminal support and doesn't lend itself to tricks like this -- or management over a network for a lot of the same reasons. The instant you scramble the controls or introduce delays, it's crash city.

Re: Recording the multi channel USB output from a soundboard
I'd record with no audiance. ;) And you'd get a lot of pushback from the producers. A theater with no people in it is a echo-ridden cavern and performances without the audience are sterile and flat. -[adrenalin] -[anticipation] -[audience support and applause]. The trick is kill the audience mics d...
