Re: Testing Recording Equipment: How should I choose?

I don't know that the quality issue is going to come down to: "if the waveform does that, it's a bad card." Equipment with really good specifications can sound funny to you and old respected classic equipment can have very ordinary specifications. Neumann U87 microphone specifications are ...

Re: Audacity won't open - keeps crashing

I wish Lion didn't automatically hide the user library - finally set it to permanently show and that sped things up. The User Library? I thought it hid the system settings and the System Library. But yes, like Windows hiding filename extensions, it's really cool and fashionable until something goes...

Re: No sound after recording

You need to remember to turn those settings off if you want to do plain recording -- like reading Goethe into a microphone. Or at least remember you did that before you write back complaining your microphone is broken.

Re: No sound after recording

Stereo-Mix will make your head hurt. The computer has to run the Record and Play parts of the computer at the same time for you to record YouTube. It's a delicate act and if you mess up a setting, it's the same as getting your rock band microphone too close to the speakers. .....eeeeEEEEEE. It's mor...

Re: No sound after recording

Audacity thought you wanted it to send the sound to your Sony/Philips Digital Interface. S/PDIF. If you don't have one of those, then pick one of the Windows selections.

Re: disk full

A slash mark inside a filename can send the computer looking for a non-existent disk. Never put dates inside filenames. Today is 20121203.

Re: how to connect M-AUDIO Ozonic with Mixer?

The analog outputs on the M-AUDIO Ozonic are the 1/4" sockets, not RCA. I assume because they're intended to connect to a rock band system, not a recording studio. You can get there with adapters such as these. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062455 I can't tell from the ...

Re: No sound after recording

Doesn't it indicate that the problem may lay with my installation of Audacity? Right. See: pull down the speaker selector. Audacity could be trying to send the sound anywhere. You can also get there with Edit > Preferences > Devices > Recording and Playback. Like I said, it's extraordinarily common...

Re: Sending audio files in email

First paragraph - highlighted in the blue box (perhaps it should be highlighted more strongly): Perhaps we leave the color (sorry, colour) alone and rewrite it so it's clearer? The FAQ failure in each and every case is that everybody thinks AUP is a sound format. It's not and nowhere in the documen...

Re: Sending audio files in email

So it's a sound format inside Audacity, in which case the poster's job should have worked.
