Re: Tips for improving sound quality? Sample clip attached
Many headsets have a highly directional microphone and it's extraordinarily important to make sure it's pointed to you and not the wall. Pull the little foam thingy off and see if you can figure out which way it's supposed to point. We have a very high quality headset with a flex cable mount and you...

Re: Tips for improving sound quality? Sample clip attached
I have begun recording audio using a USB headset but the audio quality leaves much to be desired. Is that somebody wrapping Christmas presents in the background? That's pretty obvious. You don't need us for that. With a headset, all you need is a quiet room, you don't have to worry so much about ro...

Re: Stereo microphone: right channel = left channel?
When you do get it running, blow up the blue waves and make sure you're actually in stereo. There are microphones that have internal batteries and they don't use the middle ring of the connector. Like this one. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102927 Does your mic connector loo...

Re: Audio files not playing, opening with error message 2
You can have serious stability problems with early Audacity versions. The only trick is the AUP file and the _DATA folder have to be in the same place or folder. You can't put one in "My Music" and the other on the desktop. That won't work with any Audacity version. file is actually open a...

Re: Stereo microphone: right channel = left channel?
If you look at the instructions for this microphone, I bet it says to use it with a Sony DAT machine, Sony camcorder, or other Sony product. It's not a "generic" microphone. The generic Mic-In on your Windows Laptop is mono. The connection is the second illustration -- scroll down. http://...

Re: New track slipping in all my project files!!
You should still be concerned. Disaster Recovery in 1.2.6 was terrible. You are a bunch of revisions and updates behind. Audacity 2.0.2 is much more stable and has much better disaster recovery.
However, You should probably wait for a senior elf to jump in with specific recommendations.

Re: Newbie Question - Do I need an external ADC?
That may be the limit inside the Mac. The ADC is very, very, good, but it's not God's Gift. They assume if you're going to go completely nuts, you'll do it outside the computer. There is a very good, high end preamp with USB output, and the other elves will tell you what it is. I don't record that h...

Re: too much bass! :(
Did you take your camcorder to the rock concert? That's not just too much bass. That's your microphone overloading during the bass notes affecting everything else. Overload/clipping is one of the permanently fatal sound errors. Upload a short segment of the damaged song. http://forum.audacityteam.or...

Re: Cannot Remove Vocal from a Song
i got the song and acapella of the same. For that to work, the a cappella and the mixed song would have to come from the same multi-track recording, not recorded a week apart. The singer's tongue and lips would have to be in exactly the same place in both songs -- and each would have to go through ...

Re: Any Way To Clean Up The Voice On This Audio File?
The phrase "help me clean up.." is usually the kiss of death, but this time I think we can actually help. Apply Effect > Notch filter at 243Hz and Q value of 1. There are lots of other problems, but that's a terrific start. The voice has comb filtering errors and you can also apply about 2...
