Re: Recommended file type for CD

Because Audio CD used a fixed, high quality format, they also have a fixed playing time -- usually about 78 minutes. You never get the 80 minutes it says on the disk. My truck/lorry will not play a data CD with MP3s on it, but my sister's new car will.

Re: Podcast equipment

You are after an audience, right? Or is this a vanity podcast because Jerry down the block has one? Koz

Re: Podcast equipment

I am looking to start my own podcast Describe the show. In detail. That pretty well tells us the equipment list. It also tells us production problems. "I want to do interviews over Skype" is usually the kiss of death. That's a lot harder to do than everybody thinks because Skype makes con...

Re: Sound went away. Why?

When you play the music, do you get the blue waves and bouncing green sound meter? http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/Audacity1_playback.jpg Did you recently try a USB microphone or other USB sound device? Sometimes Windows can get confused about where the sound is supposed to go. Click the dropdown nex...

Re: Newbie Question - Do I need an external ADC?

protected by the reality distortion field! Or more likely, the superior, extra-cost cabinet shielding. The distortion field is needed when you write the check. There is another trend in PCs. People recording entertainment content (trust me, the way I do it, it's "content" not music) on Wi...

Re: Podcast equipment

Since you have a MacBook Pro, that's all you need. Unlike Windows machines, the built-in microphone is not half bad. I have done simple voice tracks for television commercial production on it. Nobody will be awarding me medals, but it worked. This is enough for you to produce a voice track and with ...

Re: Newbie Question - Do I need an external ADC?

a cheap one to get the ADC out of the way of electrical interference and 'noise' inside the box? We don't have noise. I do broadcast sound recording sessions with the Stereo Line-In on my MacBook Pro. http://www.apple.com/macbook-pro/features/ http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MacLineIn.jpg It...

Re: Stereo microphone: right channel = left channel?

If by Plug-In Power they mean 5v on the ring, then most computers provide that at the pink Mic-In socket. What many computers don't have is the ability to manage sound on the ring in addition to the Power. That's unusual. Those sound cards are celebrities. It's possible you can load drivers to get a...

Re: Stereo microphone: right channel = left channel?

This gets fascinatinger. There's a YouTube presentation where he plugs in an ECM-CS3 instead of a standard mono tie-tack microphone and the sound snaps into stereo (clothing noise only on one side and I can tell how big the room is), but he never says anywhere what he plugged it into. Pictures of th...

Re: separate/filter out certain voices

And we'd love to help you, but that's one of the reliable, time-tested ways to kill a show. You can't split off individual instruments from a mixed orchestra and you can't split off individual voices from a performance.
