Re: Question about MIDI controllers
I think I once used a free version of CakeWalk to connect my computer with the keyboard. My original keyboard was nothing special. It was a 66 key "ironing board" and I got it on special at the local Big Box Retailer. I enjoyed it for years until I wore it out. I put the simple CakeWalk li...

Re: audio cut
You need to get closer than that. You want to silence a small portion of just "left" in a stereo show?

Re: Distorted recording of lecture.
Thanks for the posting. How did you connect the cassette machine to the computer? A common mistake is to use, for example, the line-out of a cassette machine and connect it to the Mic-In of a Windows laptop computer. Mic-In is not a generic stereo connection. It's designed for a real mono microphone...

Re: flat bottom on waveform
Audacity doesn't apply effects or filters in real time and it's a complete slave to what the computer is doing. If the computer supplies damaged sound, then that's what gets recorded. Koz

Re: flat bottom on waveform
Do you have an iPod or other personal music player? Jack that into your sound card in place of your turntable system and see if you can make a good recording that way. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/stereoJumper.jpg If not, then the Line-In electronics may be damaged. If you can, then there'...

Re: Recordings are bad, Audacity or SoundMAX problem?
I don't either, but we can get some clues from the sound file. It is a sound stream or Audacity would collapse, but it's a very seriously damaged stream. Maybe. On a whim, did you amplify that sound before you posted it? It almost sounds like background digital trash present on most recordings, but ...

Re: connecting keyboard
Which one? Yamaha appears to make a bunch of them. No. Audacity does not support machine control (MIDI). You need to dig in your instructions (which I couldn't find) and see if the audio service is available via USB. I have two Yamaha keyboards and I use splitter cables on the headphone output. The ...

Re: Please provide us a build of Audacity without MP3
Audacity for Windows sabotages my attempt to educate users about Free Codecs, because it ships with MP3 pre-compiled. Not from us it doesn't. http://audacityteam.org/download/ This is the official download site. It's certainly possible to offer Audacity in multiple different flavors due to its open...

Re: Need help recording voicemail
When I hit record, I can see the volume spiking but I can't hear anything, even when I have the "Software playthrough" checked. Also, when I try playing the recording back, there is no sound. While you're recording, so you get both bouncing red recording meters and blue waves like this: h...

Re: Timed Recording Failed?
The MacBook had more than 50% power when I set it up to record. Doesn't count. The battery counter in a Mac is notoriously inaccurate. Some of the Mac System tasks will flat out refuse to run on batteries, instead requiring shore power. There could be something wrong, but I'm not surprised it does ...
