Re: Newbie audio programmer smoothing and windowing function

some of the audacity developers might hang out here
We're the moat. The developers are not interested in why your turntable doesn't work right.
But should you decide to help in the developer effort, that could be interesting.

Re: DLL opener problems

Audacity doesn't use the generic lame. You should get it direct from us.

Re: tearing of sound

Import the MP3 into a fresh Audacity and play that. Is it still clean? If you have clipping indicator turned on (View > Show Clipping) does your whole show turn red?

Re: scrubbing or digital skimming

Have you used the playback speed control in the newer Audacity? It's awkward, when what you really want to do is grab the cursor and go, but it does work. Koz

Re: scrubbing or digital skimming

I agree. It's easy to do in a video editor because the sound comes automatically in one television frame chunks. If you stick in one place, the program just repeats that one frame -- ZIPZIPZIPZIP DODODODODOD TETETETETE --until you let go or go somewhere else. The program never has to make up a new s...

Re: Eliminating extraneous sounds while recording

Audacity doesn't do anything in real time. No filters and no effects. Just straight record and playback. You can't do it in post production later, either. Once you capture a performance it becomes a mixed show and you can't take a mixed show apart into individual instruments, voices ... or applause....

Ummmmm. Audio Technica AT2020 http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/wired_mics/a0933a662b5ed0e2/index.html Yes, terrific microphone. Flat, good quality cardioid. No significant lumps and bumps. Flat, as the joke goes, from DC to infra-red light. I would have used two, but that's just me. Rent one. The s...

Re: Separated Track Bleedover

I'm afraid to pay for Garage Band or Pro Tools and still have the same problem.
We all use similar sound pathways. If you can't get simple Audacity to work, that's a very bad sign.

Re: Separated Track Bleedover

VLC Player has pulled my bacon out of the fire multiple times. Highly recommended. I'm on a Mac, so I have all the QuickTime libraries behind me and I have a license of Flip For Mac which lets me play Windows material. You can download free QuickTime for Windows and you'd be covered, too. I can't ev...

Re: vocal remover

Vocal Removal only works with voices in the exact dead-center of the show like most lead singers. If the singer or singers are a little left or right of center, they will not be removed. Vocal Removal is an arithmetic tool. It has no idea at all what a voice is. If it's in the middle, it goes. Other...
