Re: Audacity locking up computer?
That's one possibility. The other is you ran out of hard drive space to put the show. How big is your hard drive and how much space do you have left? Audio (and video) production takes up a lot of space. Audacity doesn't work in compressed MP3 land, it works in high quality WAV format. 800MB or more...

Re: Microphone seems to be always active
The way I understand Windows does it, the Realtek is the manager of the microphone and the other analog services/devices, so what you have is perfectly normal. In order to record What's Playing On The Computer, you have to record from a "fake" audio device such as Stereo-Mix or What-U-Hear...

Re: files recorded to CD not playing on car cd player
On Windows, you should be able to burn a Music CD in Windows Media -- about which I know nothing.

Re: files recorded to CD not playing on car cd player
There are two ways to burn stuff to a CD. You made a Data CD on which you can put anything that will fit. It's a flat, shiny hard drive. You could have put your music file, a Photoshop picture and an Excel spreadsheet if you wanted. None of that will play on a standard Music CD Player, but your comp...

Re: Export to .3gp
FFMpeg software add-on is the generally accepted way to expand Audacity's format talents -- both directions.

Re: Working on multi-track recordings
Collect all four tracks as mono and Import each of them into Audacity. They will stack one above the other and play at the same time. You can edit and mix however you want. Use Mute and Solo to listen to individual tracks and combinations.

It only works on voices in the middle of a stereo show and even then not so well.
Give it a shot.

The automatic clipping is happening in the Mic-In of your new laptop. Mic-In is designed to accept a microphone or headset, not the robust, powerful signals from a turntable system. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/computerAnalogMicrophone.jpg http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/PCHeadset.jpg M...

Re: Recording audio from a DVD in my DVD drive
It might be recording from your microphone and speakers. You can set Windows (sometimes) to record what's playing on the computer and you can get a digital copy that way -- in real time. 93 minutes later you'll have a good recording. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tutorial_recording_audio_play...
