Re: How to make stereo sound to 5.1?

Dolby AC3 has sound services way over and above "put this voice over there." Dial Norm is the setting that lets you produce thunder, gunshots and jets taking off in their real-world loudness. People producing AC3 for the first time sometimes get burned with this when the encoder they use s...

Re: Mono channel problem

If you plug a mono plug into a stereo Line-In, only the tip of the connector and the protective sleeve will connect which appears as Left-Only in Audacity. If you have Edit > Preferences > Devices set for mono, then Audacity will produce a mono audio track which automatically plays to both ears in a...

Re: What settings to use for an internet podcast?

Unless you change the encoding quality, the filesize will remain the same, but the show quality will take a dive.

Re: How much RAM can Audacity address in Windows 7?

I only have 1GB of RAM
That's a significant problem. I would expect the slowdowns and problems you have to be normal.

and no multitracking. The G-Track we reviewed specifically because it can multi-track. Not in stereo, though. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/samsonGTrackConnections.jpg So you need to give us a bunch more information, including looking past this purchase. Do you eventually want to sound lik...

Re: What type of USB mike would you recommend?

Price Range? Since there is no mixer, USB microphones can be hard to control and can take post production to get what you want. Electric Guitars can cause problems because of uncontrolled high volume. Again, no mixer to conveniently adjust for the performance. We had a poster recently who was having...

Re: Locating Project Data folder

The AUP file and the _DATA folder of the same name must be in the same place for a project to open. They need to see each other. Any separation like separate folders or directories is lethal.

Copying to a different place is "moving."

Re: How close is Audacity to Adobe Audition?

Rather than blow a loud whistle and have the whole project drop Audition like a hot rock, why not a pilot project where a subset of editors start using Audacity and see how it goes. This will also give you a cadre of experienced users to coach others if you decide to go this route. And there's alway...

This is a thread that features Noise Gate. http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=70146&p=201969&hilit=noise+gate Noise gate suppresses the sounds between words. It's not the greatest gift to mankind because voices are never perfect and the noises between words are never perf...
