Re: background noise
You might have Windows Enhanced Services running. That's the service that's supposed to help make Skype calls better and clearer, but it can interfere with entertainment recording. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_recording_troubleshooting.html#enhancements Audacity doesn't apply filters or ...

Re: Hiss
Please note that the earbuds are plugged into the X2U and not the computer. This lets you do perfect overdubbing and sound-on-sound should you want to play all the instruments in a band yourself. Koz

Re: Hiss
The connection inside the Mic-In isn't plain TRS. The microphone is putting the main sound signal in pin2 of the XLR and that's goes to the tip of the TRS which is the main sound signal. So far, so good. The Microphone protection signal is going down pin3 of the XLR which is the Ring of the TRS. The...

Re: Hiss
I found two different suppliers of that peculiar adapter cable.

The second one is right-angle and you need to be careful that it fits.

Here's a good one. http://www.wwbw.com/Live-Wire-1-4-F--Mini-M--Mono-Adapter-330863-i1166768.wwbw?CJAID=10563961&CJPID=1609763&CJSID=tfc_-_17_12_130121_ac20e7a55afe2c470a824a4b860d33df%3A0000 The stereo adapter will work because the system just ignores the ring connection, but this one is pr...

Re: Hiss
When you use this, remember that you have fifty-two pounds of cable and connector sitting on the tiny Mic-In jack of your laptop. They're easy to break.

Re: Hiss
Where did you put the TRS? You can't just jack it into the Mic-In of your computer. That takes a special adapter. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/UnbalBalAdapter.jpg I think I still have the formula for plugging up your own out of commercial parts. Here it is. Some of these may not be available any m...

Re: can't change latency
There's two latencies and you can only adjust one of them. You can't hear yourself by listening to the computer. Everything in your headphones will be "one computer late" and that can be up to a half-second or so. You're stuck with that. That's not a slider adjustment. You can recompile Au...

Re: Large files
Mono yes. That helps a lot. However: from 44100Hz (default) to 22025Hz My money is that doesn't work. The quality of a compressed file depends on the quality of the input file and completely independent of the output filesize. The more you reduce the quality of the presented file, the worse the prod...
