Re: Which mixer?
This is one way. That's a Peavey PV6 connected to a Begringer UCA202 adapter and then on to the computer. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/peaveyUCA202Lenovo.jpg The UCA202 converts the analog sound from the US$100 mixer to digital. The UCA202 (US$30, I think) also happens to be one of the har...

Re: Editing an MP3
burn this to CD for the DJ There isn't one CD. There are different ways to burn a CD. If you want the maximum interchangability with music players, you want to burn an Audio CD. This is usually a setting in the burn dialog of your CD authoring program. Another version, the Data CD causes all sorts ...

Re: Removing hiss from an old TV recording
Noise Removal has really good publicity (Removes!! Noise!!) when in fact it's mostly Hollywood. It never removes most common noises and we talked about renaming it "Noise Reduction." Sometimes it's debatable how well it does that. By the time you realize you need it, it's already too late....

Re: Automatic adjustment/increase of sound level
Slightly low level can be easily cured by Audacity tools with little or no damage. If you overload with too loud a sound, that will produce permanent, fatal damage. So a little too low isn't bad. Try Chris's Compressor. I use it to even out the volume variations in podcasts so I can listen in the ca...

Re: Sony PCM F1 Editing?
Since that's a pre-DAT machine unpopular in 1980 I wouldn't imagine you would need very many extra cups and saucers for guests. What form is the work in now? Not the original tape, I hope. The material is supposed to be semi-complaint Pulse Code Modulation, so it might be possible to just open (Impo...

Re: Remove center vocals and keep one track?
You might not get there. You can't do Vocal Isolation well and that's what you need to cancel the original voice from one side. The product of successful Vocal Removal is not the original stereo show. It's a single-channel mono show with no voices -- and you can't go backwards. The people who claim ...

Re: Help! quality preference settings
Change the sample rate with the little window lower left. You know this is going to sound pretty awful, right? MP3-32 is barely OK for human speech assuming no other damage. You already have MP3 compression damage plus terrible originating sample rate. So it's super bad AM radio -- if that. I hope t...

Re: Recording mic/stereo mix at the same time
MP3 messes with the quality of the music. You can't pin it down to "it sounds muffled" or "it has no low end." In real life, you can listen to three violins. Two of them are crappy quality and one is a concert quality instrument. In real life, you can tell instantly which one is ...

Re: wav files connot be handled by CD burining apps
Audacity will export WAV files with 32-floating format. They're super quality files, but burners are not going to have any idea what to do with them.
