Re: "Hollow" voice over
Can you take the equipment outside? Just for a test if you have a quiet neighborhood, test the system exactly as you have it, but without the room. Most of the presentation sounds OK, but you have that constricting echo sound and I think that's what's killing you. I've been known to build a studio o...

Re: How to compute SPL from sound inputed from a microphone.
We should probably remember that the peak value of any wave is zero RMS. RMS is the area under the curve and single point peak values have no curve. 0.707 times one half the hoo-haa, do-si-do is not valid -- or it is valid if the peak value is the highest point of a well-formed sine wave. If you hav...

Re: connection problems with turntable and phono pre-amp
Update! Update! The Pyle appears to have a Stereo Line-In connection. That's to connect your tape machine, cassette machine, tuner or iPod to your system. Not another turntable. If you do get any audio out of what you have, it's likely to be very low and sound squeaky. The audio out of a classic tur...

Re: connection problems with turntable and phono pre-amp
There is some troubleshooting to do. The Pyle has a headphone connection. Try that. I'm just reading this again. Are you sure the RCA connections are to plug something in and not another way to get audio out? Real phono preamps have three connections, not two. RCA Left, RCA Right and the shield/grou...

Re: "Hollow" voice over
If you conform to the modern idea that all your surfaces need to be polished oak and you subscribe to the clean, spare look, then recording voice is going to be an adventure. We're currently struggling with a friend on the US east coast who volunteered to do promotional announcements in one of those...

Re: Problems with my mic not recording sound
The adapter into the computer should look something like this: http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/UnbalBalAdapter.jpg If the male plug looks like one of these: http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/stereoJumper.jpg Then that's where your sound is going. The Mic-In of a laptop computer is not directly c...

Re: Problems with my mic not recording sound
I choose the right microphone You probably selected the built-in microphone on your Sony. That will pick up mechanical vibrations like when you move cables around. In Windows Control Panels, you should be able to select Mic-In if that's what you have your microphone system plugged into, not built-i...

Re: Static lowering recording quality
Does your recording system look something like that? http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/Audacity1_record.jpg You can click on the right-hand edge of your meters and drag to make them bigger. If your red meters go all the way up or the blue waves fill the block or turn red, then you are overloading -- re...

Re: "Hollow" voice over
There are very few tools for repairing a damaged voice. You might try turning off Windows Enhanced Services.
