Re: nanoKEY not heard through headphones during overdub

There are two latencies. Recording Latency is where you have to slide your playback file around so it matches your voice when you play them both back later. That one's a slider inside Audacity and we provide instructions how to do that. "Tap a pencil in time to the playback drum track and them ...

You can use Labels which may be placed on a timeline to indicate a point of interest.

Tracks > Add Label...

My shortcut key is Command-B. Yours may be different.

Re: Test Microphones with Audacity?

The crunching newspaper test can be valuable just by listening. Compare the sound of a known good microphone to a mystery one. If you have good headphones or killer sound system, the differences will be clear. And if I left that out, how are you listening to all this sound work? Speaker or headphone...

Re: Test Microphones with Audacity?

I'd guess the "sweet spot" is around $300.
This is where the poster pops in to tell us what most of their work is so we can get closer.

Re: Test Microphones with Audacity?

Virtually all on-location movie dialog is re-recorded in the studio That's pushing it. Studio re-recording takes time and time is very expensive. Much better to get it the first time. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/Boom.jpg http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/BarbecueShotgun.jpg For years we did...

Paste your capture into Microsoft Paint and then save it as a JPG or PNG file. Post that. Sometimes you can reset Audacity preferences from 32-floating to 16-bit and it wi...

Re: Playback Speed

The second recording being faster -- barring any outright equipment failure -- could indicate your computer's inability to keep up. The key is the sound gets faster or higher. That could mean the sampling of the second performance has holes in it or places where the sampling didn't happen. When you ...

Re: Test Microphones with Audacity?

Am in the market for a neutral sounding omni microphone for use in both studio and on location recording. You probably shouldn't be. Omnidirectional microphones appear to be wonderful creatures until you try to use them. In almost all but carefully controlled studio conditions, they're almost usele...

Re: White Noise while recording even when Microphone is unpl

It's just I decided to lower the microphone boost in downs by 10 dcb then recorded.
Wait, What? The microphone boost in Windows should have nothing at all to do with the mixer if you have it connected with the USB cable. Do you have any other cables between the computer and the mixer? Koz
