Re: Error - cannot find either data or project files
For ease I dragged and dropped all created songs into these 2 separate files. I didn't understand that. You made a folder called something and then dragged your AUP file and _DATA folder over to it? You must keep the AUP file and the _DATA folder in the same place or folder for Audacity to open a s...

Re: Tips to Remove AC Hum?
severe AC hum. That may kill you right there. What country are you in? Severe hum or buzz causes other distortions than just covering up the sound. It actually distorts the music or voices so if you do get rid of the interference, the music that's left can be badly damaged. You're not going back to...

Re: problem with amplify and normalize
AUP is not a sound file. It's an Audacity Project Manager and a small fraction of the actual show. Both Amplify and Normalize act on whatever part of the show is highlighted or selected. Select the first track by clicking just above the MUTE button and then hold Shift and select the second track. Ef...

Re: New user needs help
Close and restart Audacity. Click on the Microphone drop-down (input) and see if there's a listing for "USB Sound Device" or something similar. Select it. Play a tape and start Audacity recording. You should see the red recording meters bounce (but you may not hear anything). Stop the play...

Re: recording volume vertical scale
Audio signals go by volts, not power. 20LOG (v1/v2). By that measure 1/2 voltage is 6dB.
And the posting is correct. Average peaks for a live performance can soak up 6dB quickly, so it's very dangerous to go higher.

Re: Clipped audio at -4db?
My MacBook Pro will have stereo input won't it? Yes, is it's one of the older ones. For any line-level device, it's a direct shot. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MacLine-In.jpg Thin circle and two black arrows. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MacLineIn.jpg The newer MBPs don't have it an...

Re: Clipped audio at -4db?
That UCA202 device is 48khz. I don't think that's correct. I think it will cheerfully run at either 44100, or 48000. If I get a second later I can check it. But no, it's a safe bet that it won't run at stratospheric sample rates. 44100 is the native sample rate of Music CD and 48000 is the sample r...

Re: Clipped audio at -4db?
That's the symptom of someone using the analog pathway and the computer Mic-In on a laptop instead of Stereo Line-In (which most laptops don't have) or the much better USB pathway. Even more evidence for this process is the two blue waves, upper and lower are exactly the same. Mic-In on most laptops...

Re: high-pitched mosquito whine/hum in all headset recording
There are a number of things wrong with the recording. Attached is a cleaned up version. Effect > Noise Reduction: 18, 0, 200, 0 Effect > High Pass Filter: 100Hz 24dB Effect > Amplify to -1. So that's how to make what you have into a moderately presentable recording. If you overdo noise removal, it ...

The audiogram3 is not USB. Only the Audiogram6. Now it's hard. For $100 you can get a Peavey PV6... http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PV6/ ...and a Behringer UCA202... http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/UCA202 ...which combine to look like this... http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/peav...
