You didn't say what kind of microphone or set up you had. We can push you around a little once we know that, but 99.99% of success is getting a quiet, echo-free room. I've been known to get a good scratch voice track on the laptop built-in microphone with a quiet room.

Re: Background noise
The best I can do with recording is to lock myself in a conference room. That's how I do it. I've been known to postpone or cancel voice recording sessions because the sound-proofed and isolated Executive Conference Room wasn't available. There is no magic filter to make your kitchen into a Hollywo...

Re: Re-saving an MP3, does quality suffer
For a simple editing job like that, you are strongly urged to use a simple MP3 editing tool rather than Audacity. Because of the re-encoding problem, you can get a significant bump-down in quality. You will probably never notice it because down from 192 is still a significant bitrate, but a program ...

Re: When I export a file, it doesn't act like it should!!
Shouldn't that have happened? Forbidden characters have been around for decades and you have to know it's going to happen. It's one of the pitfalls of creating content. Nobody but you knows what your filename is going to be. Trying to make the software second-guess you would be a nightmare, particu...

Re: audacity stopped recording system sounds for no reason.
Audacity stopped recording system sounds for no reason. It stopped recording right in the middle of a musical note? You're going to have to shovel a lot more information into this. Which computer, what operating system, Which Audacity, etc. etc. We have to build your system in our heads to service ...

Step one. Find out if there's anything coming out of the Mackie. Plug in a straight RCA to RCA cable into the Mackie in place of your computer cable. Touch your earbuds or headphones to the other end of one RCA. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/earBudsRCA.jpg Play something. You can turn down ...

Re: How do I separate songs for making a CD.
I eventually succeeded but it was a lot more work than I thought it should have been People saving their existing music library to Music CD are always dismayed how much work it is. The On-Line/iTunes downloads look better and better as you crank through capture, noise reduction, level correction, c...

Re: Is there a way to reduce peaks other than manually?
The DMG file is a sealed carrier intended to be installed on your Mac. It's not an operating file, even though it may look like one. It's a Disk Image and it should come with its own installer. It should not let you change it at all. Double click on it and it should install Audacity properly. After ...

Re: Split recording for long recordings....
Windows Media should happily accept your sound clips and burn a Music CD. Make sure it says Music or Audio CD because there are others. It should give you the option to change the standard 2-second gap between songs. Reduce it to zero and that will put chapter markers into what sounds like a continu...
