Re: Volume surges after compression (audiobook recording)
We are familiar with Porta-Booth. https://voiceoveressentials.com/product/porta-booth-plus You can fold it up and take it with you on a plane should you wish to be one of the three people on that plane. That's what I used as a model for my Kitchen Table Studio. https://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtop...

Re: Volume surges after compression (audiobook recording)
So. It's a side-address microphone. You should be speaking into the side grill just up from the company name. The switch on the left should not be -10dB. -10dB setting is for playing a trumpet loudly or recording an explosion. The switch on the right is a rumble filter and doesn't make a lot of diff...

The test passes with simple Audiobook Mastering. Screen Shot 2020-08-16 at 7.43.02 AM.png ...but. As you probably found, the background hiss is pretty stiff and annoying. I can suppress it with Noise Reduction of the Beast. Drag-select some Room tone at the beginning and Effect > Noise Reduction > P...

Re: Volume surges after compression (audiobook recording)
Chris's Compressor is only partially developed. It doesn't like the ends of a performance. For example, it is recommended you add some unimportant sound to the ends of a show so the surging damage doesn't happen on valuable work. After the compression is completed, cut off the extra sound. Chris isn...

Right-Click, Control+Click, or Control+Tap that file > Get INFO.
It should look something like this.
Pay attention to the More Info.
Now right-click one of your files.
How long are your shows?

Re: understanding audacity compression vs AH Qu mixer version
Could you possibly help explain the way the older compressor that shipped with audacity works? No. I have no idea. I can probably guess what they're doing by the graphics and instructions, but I have no actual touchy-feely experience with them solving real-world problems. That's another advantage o...

Re: understanding audacity compression vs AH Qu mixer version
compress dynamics (is that Chris' compressor?) That's the one. I don't think it's useful to try and change Chris's settings. Just to know the metaphors and results. He designed the compressor so he could listen to opera in the car. If you have an even moderately noisy car, you know that's not fun. ...

Re: Storing Labels Within .WAV Files
.WAV file 'parameters/specs' and can be passed from one audio editor to another. Any audio editor that's expecting label data to be included in parameters/specs. Can you overload it? Can you have so many labels that the data doesn't fit? I bet this skews the file size estimates. As a sometime conte...

Re: Amplify still has clipping
when I use headphones there’s no distortion When you use the headphones on your phone ? Then the phone is broken. You should be careful when you assign damage blame. If the headphones are OK, that means the basic sound is fine and the speaker system on the phone can't handle the sounds. Does it hav...
