Audacity has its own sound pathway settings.
Edit > Preferences > Devices > Playback.
If you have USB sound systems, plug the USB in first and then start Audacity.

Re: wav file recorded with voice downlink not working
You may be able to open the sound file if you install the FFMpeg software into Audacity. FFMpeg allows Audacity to recognize and open many more sound formats than Audacity alone. http://manual.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=FAQ:Installation_and_Plug-Ins#installffmpeg What kind of sound file does t...

Re: Sound with HDMI
You're missing a step. What's plugged into your TV with HDMI? Typically, HDMI systems need to "know" and "recognize" media. This is to prevent theft of intellectual property and it causes no end of problems for home recordists. We installed HDMI conference display systems at work...

Re: ART USB Mix records playback with new take
Try this. De-Select the little button that says "USB Playback to CH 2-3" and play something in Audacity. Only Audacity. Listen to the mixer headphone connection and see if you can hear it. Edit > Preferences > Recording [_] Playthrough (de-select) Edit > Preferences > Recording [X] Overdub...

Re: Screenshot Tools not working
In the mean time, you can use the two Mac screen grab tools: Command-Shift-3 will capture the whole screen and Command-Shift-4 will allow you to draw a box around the portion of the screen you want included in the capture.

Re: Cannot Record Mic Input on Denon MC6000
It's a juggling act. Those USB/MIDI switches along the upper panel edge of the mixer have to be set for Audio and not MIDI. The mixer has only one USB connection and if you pick the wrong configuration, Audacity won't get anything.

You have a Grand Piano like a Steinway and a Yamaha keyboard?
How did you mic the Steinway?
This has never worked, right? Maybe in an older computer?

Re: Silent orphaned files - any hope?
Maybe you got a much better quality crash. If Audacity goes into the mud while it's writing the last file, then sometimes the last file is garbage and everything else is OK. But if it goes into the mud when either it or Windows is trying to do file or directory management, that's much more serious. ...

Re: Trying to record both voice and system audio on separate
Recording your voice is not drop-dead simple. The fact that it works in Skype or other communications software just means the people at the other end have a high tolerance for distortion, noise and echoes. I've been known to record a corporate conference call and send the sound file back to the othe...

Re: editing an .aup file VS .mp3
Nice try, though. The act of making an MP3 creates a combination of show music and compression damage. If you make an MP3 out of an existing MP3, you are compressing the compression damage from the first one making it much worse. If you open an MP3 as WAV, Audacity Project (please, not "aup fil...
