Re: Error message

and hooked up a cassette player.
How? Windows laptop? Windows XP? We have to build your system in our head, so descriptions are good.

Regular old analog cassette player like maybe Sony Walkman? Did you buy one of those newer USB Cassette Machines?

Re: Help needed: Can't open .caf files any more?

iMovie sound files. Audacity freezes or vanishes? If the files open in QuickTime, chances they will also open in iTunes. If they do, the desperation method is convert to WAV in iTunes and use that in Audacity. There is also this MP3 converter although you should not be using MP3 for production, only...

Re: Mac and Edirol FA66

Windows doesn't natively support four channels or 24-bit sampling. Did you per chance load the Windows Driver package that came with the unit? Here it is: "Mac OS X CoreAudio and Windows XP WDM and ASIO 2.0 support" So all you should need is the driver/software package. There are two place...

Re: speeded up recording from mic problem

I use a TP-7 to record telephone conversations all the time for when someone starts giving me rapid-fire long lists of instructions. I used to just miss them all. "OK, What now? Sign the blue form and put it in the purple envelope and send it to Chicago?" I'm using a StarTech ICUSBAudio as...

Re: Problem recording 24-bit with Roland Quad-Capture

Wild stab. The device requires special software that is supplied by the program that came with it. Audacity relies on Windows drivers and they do not natively support 24-bit. Someone will correct me. Koz

Re: High Pitched Background Noise

I have seen systems that work like this. Are you going through a USB hub? Generally, audio systems require a Home Run to the computer without extra electronics -- although I don't think that's what the problem is. The power from the computer is rarely completely clean and noise-free. The early iMic ...

Re: Vibration measurements

There is no direct association between volts and dB unless you use the broadcast definition of 0dBmv = 0.224vrms or a definition like that. Another association is Sound Pressure dBSPL, but a scientific instrument could be anything, particularly since vibrations, like earthquakes, do not have to be a...

Re: USB Audio CODEC unavailable

I guess it's possible the keyboard uses a combined MIDI/Audio connection. I've never heard of that. I guess it's also possible the keyboard can switch between them. You don't generally get both on one cable. Is it possible you have another USB Audio Device in the system? The desperation method if yo...

Re: Latency Rate Changes Each Time I Record! Help!

The grown-up programs don't use the built-in computer sound services. They use custom software drivers and packages that purposely create new sound pathways that can greatly minimize delays. Audacity can't do that because that costs money and also the program has to work seamlessly across the three ...
