One more. Unplug the sound connectors at your computer and plug them back in again. Sometimes if you don't get the plug pushed all the way in, you can get mono by accident. Koz

The Mic-In of a sound card is mono. Could you have plugged into that instead of the Stereo Line-In? Pink instead of blue ( on some sound cards). If the software you use has hooks into the operating system, then the last thing you open takes over. Try pushing the Audacity Playback volume control all the way up. The slider next to the speaker.

That's stump the band time. Skype is a unique animal. Skype viciously goes out and sets sound services and characteristics by itself and it doesn't much matter what you want. there doesn't seem to be a slider for that on my unit. It's not a slider. It's usually a click ON|OFF. People are desperate to make the difference between Stereo Line, and Microphone level go away because they are expensive to build into the sound card and complicated to explain and use. So people ...

I cannot record in stereo. Are you recording one single mono track (one blue wave) or a stereo track with only sound on the upper (left) track? The sound settings in Audacity are in two different places. The sample rate and bit depth are under Quality, but Stereo/Mono is under Devices. Do you have ...
