Re: rise and fall time
You mean past the obvious recording the note and then measuring the duration of each portion of the blue waves on the timeline? Most attacks are going to be consistent, but the decays are going to depend on the condition of the felts and whether or not you're standing on the sustain pedal. If you're...

http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MacLineIn.jpg The Mac connector is stereo. It's the reverse of the headphone socket. You will need to go into... Audacity > Preferences > Devices > Recording > Device > Built-In Input. Control-Click on the red recording meters > Start Monitoring. They will wake...

Re: Issue where Compressing Podcast UN-DOES my fade-in
Which compression did you use? I don't think Audacity's compressor will do that, but Chris's Compressor will.

Re: Issue where Compressing Podcast UN-DOES my fade-in
The first place I'd look is Windows Enhanced Services. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_recording_troubleshooting.html#enhancements After that make sure Control Panel audio services doesn't have anything "magic" running like special effects and then make sure you don't have your VO...

Re: Can record Skype call OR myself-not both w QjackCtl Auda
Skype is only half-duplex I don't know that I entirely agree. As far as I got in my tests I was able to establish a full-duplex voice connection with my poor overworked colleague in New Jersey. We were able to interrupt each other and I have clips of us both on line speaking at the same time. At an...

Re: Splicing two tracks
I wonder if the clips were intentionally damaged to see how you would handle it. I once made it past an impossible engineering test by being able to explain in detail what was wrong with the question.

Re: Audible.com QC standards
You might also consider Chris' Compressor. http://theaudacitytopodcast.com/chriss-dynamic-compressor-plugin-for-audacity/ Chris designed this all-in-one compressor so he could listen to opera in the car without constantly turning the volume up and down. It evens out volume variations remarkably well...

Re: Audible.com QC standards
Do you suppose their "noise floor" is taken with the microphone turned off? Room Tone rarely gets to -60 even in some studios. If you're an experienced presenter then you know all about soundproof studios, etc. It's not impossible to do at home. I know people who crawl into their closet wi...

Booms. It doesn't look like a boom stand in the picture, but it is. Also, that's a home-made vibration mount for a microphone similar to yours. http://www.kozco.com/pictures/boothFinished/laptop-mic.jpg http://www.kozco.com/tech/pvcShockMount/final.jpg This is the one I like. It's light -- it doesn'...
