Re: Installation problems trying to open Audacity
He's cheating. He started out life with a mixed song and a music-only version of the same song. Most people want to start with one highly-compressed mixed song and perform instrument and vocal separation from that. Still, I want to see how he does it, because straight cancellation and wave managemen...

Re: *how to eliminate dither...?
Isn't it true if you import and export the same sound standard as Audacity and then turn off dither in Preferences, that it causes little or no sound damage and doesn't add the dither signal? Dither may show up if you set the meters to the limit of 16-bit WAV Edit > Preferences > Interface > Meter R...

Re: Installation problems trying to open Audacity
My primary interests in Audacity is to extract vocals from mixes Audacity doesn't have Vocal Isolation. Audition does. "Vocal Removal" very rarely works right. It's a simple arithmetic tool that cancels anything common on left and right. For example, if the singer doesn't happen to be in ...

Re: Punch-In Noise
Are you sure you're using Audacity for this? Audacity doesn't have Punch-In. If you try, it starts a new timeline. Koz

Re: newbie needs both immediate and longer term help
Built-in Input should be the stereo connection with the thin black circle and two black arrows on the side of your Mac. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MacLineIn.jpg Make sure the plug is all the way in. Two good troubleshooting techniques: -- Control-Click on the red Audacity sound meters (y...

Re: Installation problems trying to open Audacity
First you can safely forget 1.3.x. That's obsolete, no longer supported and may be unstable if you do manage to get it to work.
Then forget the dmg download. I've had troubles with that. Did you have Audacity working before? Why do you have all those filters and plugins?

Re: newbie needs both immediate and longer term help
Audacity > Preferences > Devices > Recording > Device.
What is Audacity recording from? I bet it's not built-in Input.
Do you know where the built-in microphone is physically on your Mac?

Re: Trying to do a multitrack recording
It's possible your mixer allows headphone switching between Main and AUX. I can't tell from the picture.

Re: Trying to do a multitrack recording
I think you're in luck. The Top yellow knob in each channel, AUX Send, appears to be pre-fade. So connect all your inputs to the mixer as if they were real sources for the show including the computer. Mix the show going back to the computer normally but leave the computer channel turned down. Bring ...
