Re: Recording input volume set low to get to-6db.Is this nor
It's probable that the Phono/Line switch on the turntable only affects the analog RCA cables, not the USB connection. There is no provision for Phono on USB, so that one's always "Line", similar to the connection from a cassette machine or a CD player. Good to go, no correction needed. Are...

Re: Guitar Recording too quiet
The one I saw did have two RCA Line-Outs. But yes, getting the volume levels to match is a major problem. That's why you need to pay attention to the Audacity sound meters. You also need to know that most laptop Mic-In connections are mono, not stereo. They're designed for an actual microphone. http...

Re: Sound source separation plugin
Like other sound separators... Such as? As a rule you can't split a mixed performance up into individual instruments and voices. One of the engineers at work had a program that would do a remarkably good job, but you would never mistake the separated track for a natural track or instrument. It soun...

Re: Compression Query
It's 78 minutes and you need two. Music CDs, the kind that play in your mom's car have a time restriction, not a data restriction. It's not quite 80 minutes. 78 is safe. If you're happy with an MP3 CD and you're sure it will play everywhere you need it to, then make a DATA/MP3 CD instead. Those are ...

Click on the right-hand edge of the Audacity sound meters and pull sideways to make them much bigger. When you record, does the presentation look anything like that.

Re: Sample format to import DAT over TOSlink
And yes, it's always a juggling act to stop Audacity from helping you through bit depth conversions. If all you did was capture and produce a sound file, it should not make any difference that Audacity is doing a bit depth conversion (two actually) and you can safely turn dither off. If you start me...

Re: Sample format to import DAT over TOSlink
DAT speaks AES/EBU 48000, 16-bit, stereo. It's possible to connect one of these things to broadcast television station digital video recorders, station program routing systems and satellite links. The grown-up version of these player/recorders has RS-422 machine control just like everything else in ...

Re: Recording Voice on Different Days, audio uneven
I guess you could if you wanted to. I have literally never touched any of the settings other than the first one -- Compression Ratio. I change it from the default 0.5 to 0.77 which approximates very closely the compression of local radio stations. The default settings produce a loud, dense, well beh...

One other point, the Macs that came with separate Line-In and Line-Out also have digital optical S/PDIF at those connections. You can drive a surround-sound entertainment theater with those machines. Koz

Re: help recording from an iPhone
Some of the Macs in the middle had the ability to switch one connection between Headphone and Line-In. One of the Systems people at work has a MacBook Pro 13" that works like that. Go into Apple > System Preferences > Sound and see if it has switching tools. My slightly older 15" MacBook P...
