Re: Audacity could be more helpful when paused ...
The usual procedure with tape editing would be to pause. Rock the tape forward/back by hand to find the exact position and mark it on the tape. The usual procedure for electronic video editing is to pause, rock the "tape" back and forth with either the grab-and-scan or the arrow keys and ...

Re: Can someone make this clip sound better?
That should nicely boost the 60Hz hum which has to be in there given the other problems. You didn't put a notch at 60 (that I can tell). Koz

Re: Recording system sound and mic at same time
There was a poster at the end of March that claimed to have this dual recording thing nailed down in Windows. We even followed him off-line for a while and he kept claiming any second now he was going to get all the kinks worked out. So we're going with 'not in Windows.' In Linux, you can use the cu...

Re: Can someone make this clip sound better?
Less airy or washed out sounding. What are you using for a microphone? "Airy and Washed out" is usually desirable for a voice, particularly if you have hum and room problems. See: 120Hz. That's microphone buzz and distortion. The reason we've been all over the map with this is you have tw...

Re: Can someone make this clip sound better?
I know where you got 120 from (in the US), where did you get the other numbers -- or is this a custom series for that one clip...? We're all beating about the bush. The poster really wants the equalizer sequence so he can sound like Don LaFontaine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJMGS7l0wT8 We have ...
Re: volume
Effect > Amplify permanently changes the digital sound package and the blue waves reflect those changes. If you constantly changed the volume of the sound that way, up and down and up and down, you will eventually cause some minor sound damage. The slider to the left of the track is a "fake&quo...

This might also be a good place for Effect > Compressor for the same reasons. The illustration is the settings I used. Koz

Re: Can someone make this clip sound better?
I would avoid bumping the microphone during the performance. Download and start using Chris's Compressor. http://theaudacitytopodcast.com/chriss-dynamic-compressor-plugin-for-audacity/ The quality is fine, but your volume levels are all over the place. This will fix that. You don't need to get loude...

Re: Audacity could be more helpful when paused ...
It might be useful if Pause didn't look just like most people are expecting Stop to look. "Of course the cursor froze in the middle of the song. That's what "Stop" does, isn't it? Pause is really Stop. Stop is really Reset the Cursor, or Stop + Home. It would be like you stopped a ree...

Re: FFT spectrum graph missing harmonics
Good point. I did it with Effect > Hard Limiter. How did you do it? You can't do it by smashing Audacity Headroom. Audacity doesn't have natural headroom clipping.
