And it's worse than you think because on similar words and sounds, it's not always there, so it changes with maybe humidity or time of day. They're fun to fix. Taking this upside down, I'm not sure I could create this noise if somebody wrote me a check. Standard troubleshooting suggests that you spl...

Re: Audacity has stopped working
Are you trying to record over a network? Audacity won't do that. You, the recording, and the storage have to be on the same machine. Audacity doesn't know what "Network Delay" is. Audacity will not run into a full or highly fragmented hard drive. Both will fail erratically. Just "Big&...

Re: Help with vocals.
The equalizer is a little complicated. We wrote a wiki article. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/equalization.html Scroll down until you get to the section on Graphic Eq, or run Effect > Equalization and switch the bottom selector to Graphic Eq. The tool will then work just like the equalizers i...

Re: Help with vocals.
You may only need the pop filter if you're passionately in love with the microphone -- you're too close. If you back off a little bit, then the sound of the P and B may not leave that serous pop sound in the show. Worth a shot. A clamp-on pop filter isn't all that expensive and you can make your own...

Re: Audacity could be more helpful when paused ...
Video still works like that. I suspect because somebody followed the tape video convention and it just worked, so nobody thought to mess with it. There are non-conventional editors out there and they have a "reputation." "Oh, you're using FrammisEdit?" "I'm so sorry." T...

Re: poor sound quality recording & after recording
Glad you got it sorted -- although it's supposed to work the reverse. Most computer sound cards have noisy sound and the USB system should sound much better. You might look and see if there is a volume control somewhere on the turntable and if that affects your distortion. Or not, if you're happy. W...

Re: How to Generate Arbitrary Waveforms as Envelopes
Audacity only has the draw tool which only works on individual samples. I think it was intended as a repair tool rather than a production generation tool.

Re: poor sound quality recording & after recording
Does Audacity look anything like that when you're recording? http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/Audacity1_record.jpg Grab the right edge of the meters and pull to the right to make them bigger. They may become important for testing. Post a sample of the distorted audio. http://forum.audacityteam.org/vie...
