Re: Recording an introduction

Every time you press Record from Stop, Audacity will produce a fresh audio track below the existing one[s]. If you mute the existing one with the [MUTE] button, it would be just like making a totally fresh recording.

Re: My 1.2.4 version files won't open in newer Audacity vers

I think it's still possible to get and install earlier versions of Audacity. Another elf will be along to show you how.

I would not use the early version to produce an MP3. Produce a very high quality WAV file and open that in the modern Audacity for further processing and exporting.

Re: Noise removal

First, congratulations on getting Noise Removal to work OK. Most people want it to perform miracles or do forensic jobs and it won't do either one. While Audacity will open the sound tracks to many movie types with the FFMpeg software installed, Audacity will not produce, or write to, or modify a vi...

Re: Clipping without maximum audio level?

As above, clipping at 0.5 is a signpost that you are recording high level sound on a microphone level connection. This happens to computer soundcards all the time. Newer Windows laptops are missing the High Level input prompting people to try and use Mic-In. Bad move, normally. They get what you hav...

Re: Recording with two microphones

You also can't set the volume of each one. The system jams them together and that's what you get. Go > Utilities > Audio MID Setup. The system will offer to make an Aggregate Device out of two existing digital microphones. If you have analog microphones, then you need a mixer. One-To-Two microphones...

Re: Ok, I'm stuck with trying to 'clean up' this fuzzy audio

By "Clipping" Bill means the sound got louder than the system could handle. In your case very seriously loud. When you record badly overloaded audio, the normal lumps and bumps in the sound waves look like they were surgically removed top and bottom. Clipped off. There is no way to rescue ...

Re: imorting audio

On the cd are .cda tracks. No. On the CD are .cda pointers that tell the CD player where the actual music is. You have to rip the CD using ripping software to bring the music back. I don't know that I would use Windows Media to do that. I think Windows Media always converts everything to WMA which ...

Nope. Pop and Blast filters are very valuable in getting rid of plosives, over-active P sounds and other breath effects. That's the black tennis racket things in these pictures. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/JMASoundShoot.jpg http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/wynonna2.jpg http://www.kozco.com/...

Have you looked at the Chain commands? Chains is the Audacity version of Batch Processing.

Re: Decrease amplitude

You can use the Envelope Tool (two white arrows and bent blue line). The tool produces two blue rubber bands top and bottom of the show. Grab and pull the blue lines and the volume will decrease at that point. This is a cross-fade using the Envelope Tool. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/CrossFade...
