Re: Recovering A Recording

Are you sure Windows doesn't have some method to revert to an earlier session? I'm thinking "Restore Point" or something like that. I'm obviously not on Windows. Koz

Re: Playback of imported/recorded files distorted and fast.

Say I open an mp3 file Let's say you didn't. Let's say you opened a compressed type of file such as an AAC or M4A. Audacity doesn't know how to manage those and so it plays them as if they were normal files giving the chipmunk sound. You can use the FFMpeg software to make Audacity recognize and pl...

Re: Recovering A Recording

Isn't there a Windows Restore other than System Restore? Effectively backing up your computer to an earlier date? That may be called for here. We warn people repeatedly never reuse filenames. That's just ripe disaster waiting to be picked. The produced song should be a different name from the origin...

Re: Amplifying Audio track

You may not get there, but you need to know that the tools only work after you press Stop. Pause isn't enough. Your choices are to make the music lower or to compress your voice louder. Making the music lower is pretty simple. Select the music track and run Amplify with a negative value in Amplifica...

Re: Blue Yeti or Rode Podcaster?

And also remember that Audacity doesn't do anything in real time. All this is going to happen in post production which means you can't mix your voice and effects during the show. Effects and music will not have noise in them. Once you start post production you will get into the production time expan...

Re: Decrease volume by x% (with Amplify)?

I wonder what your application is. Audio and your ears work in dB, not percent. 50% is not half volume. 50% is 6dB out of the 60dB that you can hear. Koz

Re: Prevent prompt "Save changes before closing"?

MP3 files have to be transcoded into Audacity 32-floating internal format, so yes, you have changed the MP3 by importing it. We warn people never do production in MP3. Koz

Re: Exporting WAV files in order

A Music CD Authoring Program will allow you to mix songs in any order you wish completely independently of the filenames (which Music CDs don't support). Some players can produce a playlist and that, too will allow you to rearrange music files. All others are subject to the computer file system -- g...

Re: Gradual desync introduced with long recordings

Actually, there's another piece of this. Video is fraught with oddities. Apple offered two different video editors, iMovie and Final Cut Pro. iMovie was designed for Mum and Jeremy the golden retriever at the lake. Final Cut was designed to cut 'Goldfinger.' iMovie would blissfully cruise right over...

Re: plugin for podcasting/radio show sound effects?

It would go from an alive dynamic thing to a dead thing - I don't want that. If you want entertaining spontaneity, you have to carefully plan it. A friend of mine rambles spontaneously in his podcast for 90 minutes once a week. It's pretty deadly unless you're painting your house at the same time. ...
