Re: Record streaming audio

There's no more elegant way to address computer capture. Stereo Mix (or whatever your machine calls it) conditions the whole of the audio playing on the computer and makes it available to the recording system. It defines feedback. Unfortunately, there's no standard way to do this and some machines l...

Re: Unable to play sound through headphones whilst recording

Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Recording > [X] Playthrough (select) > OK.

You may find that live recording is awkward because the headphone feed is almost always late compared to the real show and it gives you an echo. Also headphones are required if you have a live microphone.

Re: Recording Vinyl To Voice Recorder (Line In To MIC)

The only reason I'm not linking the record deck directly to computer is due to them being in different rooms. I would so figure out a way to get them in the same room. If your Mac has a real stereo line-In like the one on the left... http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MacLineIn.jpg Then that co...

Re: Does Audacity have a Codec to convert Dolby AC3 files

Audacity doesn't have codecs to convert anything, but you can install the FFMpeg software and get all of its codecs. http://manual.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=FAQ:Installation_and_Plug-Ins#installffmpeg It is suggested that if you need no editing, filtering or effects, that you do straight conv...

Re: Is the Samson CO1U compatible with Windows 8?

The older Samson mic is a straight USB sound device and should be compatible with everything. You may need to change Audacity to mono in the preferences.

Re: System requirements

Audacity is extraordinarily sensitive to the hard drive. Everything Audacity does is real time. There's no such thing as waiting for a spreadsheet to recalculate because the drive is so slow. The next musical note is coming right along after this one and if either fullness or high order fragmentatio...

Re: Having trouble with playback

Audacity will play what you have selected. If you drag-select a portion of the show, then Audacity will only play the highlighted area. Try selecting a whole track by clicking just above the MUTE button (on the left) and then Play. If you find yourself pressing Play a million times, just press the s...

Re: Scratchy/buzzy sound on recordings

I have looked at hundreds of postings and have not seen anything like this described or cured. I haven't either. What's common between the two computers? Are you recording with one on batteries and wifi in the back yard and the other by your wired desk in your office in the garage? Is it only one m...

Re: My 3-Hour Sound File Has Disappeared Completly!

(of course I saved through out the 3 hour session). How? Did you save as Show1, Show2, Show3, Show4, etc, or did you periodically press Save over the same single show? Given the three hour production and fifteen minute backups, you should be up to Show11 or Show12 each with a separate AUP file and ...
