Re: Total noob, with a deadline of next Thursday!

At the risk of being the cold water thrower, Audacity doen'st have very good forensics tools. We can't turn mostly trash into a musical performance -- as you noted. The CSI tools don't really exist. The Audacity tools are designed to suppress background noises and gentle hum or fan noise. By all mea...

Re: Multiple Export unable to export more than 1 of 30 files

Am I correct that what you're saying is those 30 files could have taken up over 3gb? That's not the problem. Audacity, buffers, cache, the operating system and all its housekeeping have to fit in that space -- oh, and the music, too -- and the export. You passed the point of shopping for a new driv...

Re: Creating a Non-stop Audio CD.

Here's one smashed seg between two songs with roughly the same beat. No matter how the DJ does it they have to match phrasing and volume as well as beats to get away with it. Interrupt too many popular "hooks" and the audience may decide to stone the DJ. It interrupts your relationship wit...

Re: Multiple Export unable to export more than 1 of 30 files

Audacity doesn't edit MP3. It converts each MP3 to its own high quality, internal uncompressed format and then makes a new MP3 at the end. So the project will take up an enormous amount of room. Another note, if you're converting from MP3 to MP3, the compression sound damage is going to double even ...

Re: Foot Pedal!!

It can be argued that Audacity already has support for the foot pedal. Any software/hardware combination that can press the "P" key will cause Audacity to stop immediately, ready to pick up again at the next key press. Since each pedal and computer is different, someone has to design the i...

Re: no sound while recording

Most computer Mic-In connections are mono, not stereo, and very easily overloaded creating crunchy, distorted sound. We usually recommend the UCA-202 as a cheap, high-quality interface. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/peaveyUCA202Lenovo.jpg Some PCs have a real stereo Line-In and some compute...

Re: Creating a Non-stop Audio CD.

I also need the end of each song to fade away by mixing with the beginning of the next one so that I have non stop music. Which tends to be fundamentally incompatible with Music CD song markers because cross-faded songs don't have a clean stop and start. When I create an extended "Dance" ...

Re: Static noise/hum and distorted voice

I got an emergency call from a production shoot that they were listening to the camcorder and had either no voices or highly distorted ones. I quickly replaced one of the long cable runs and found even a second bad one just as everyone was filing in for the show. I killed two long microphone cables ...
