Re: Headsets and phone call recording

Sure. Connect your headset to your telephone as normal and before your put the headset on, put one of these in your ear on the same side as the ear muff. If you have two muffs, it doesn't make any difference. It's an Olympus TP-7 recorder microphone. Plug this whole assembly (UCA202 and adapters. If...

Re: Constant Noise in Right Channel/Track

Audacity doesn't do anything to the show during recording, so the noise is coming from your machine somewhere.
Do you use SoundFlower or another software package that allows you to record internet shows?

Audacity > Preferences > Devices > Recording. What is that pointed to?

We may do better if you tell us what you're recording.

Re: digitizing cassettes

As new formats and devices are developed, you can convert perfect WAV to all of them. MP3 is a delivery format dead end. The real question is what are you going to store the work on? I know people storing on recordable CD. That would be the CD format with a similar dye layer to color photographs. Do...

Re: Environmental noise on streamed recordings

There are reasons to disable Stereo Mix. It's been known to mess up communications/Skype/Windows Messaging. Windows laptops aren't generic entertainment machines any more. They're corporate connection and communications devices. Anyway, I'd be surprised if you couldn't use the UCA202 we recommend fo...

Re: static/distortion on export?

How long are the shows? Where are you getting the shows from and what are the shows? What happens if you open one of the damaged shows in Audacity? Does it play OK? We're not interested in fuzzy generalities we need very specific answers. Are you both on Macs? What kind? Which OS? Are you both using...

Re: voice overs

Do you know why the original track was damaged? We're not a video editor and even if we do help you with your project, all we can do is create a terrific sound track. We can't jam it back into the video. Connect your high quality microphone in a nice echo-free, quiet room, start Audacity, and then s...

Nowhere does the poster say the speech is clear and intelligible. I'm betting on short wave broadcasts recorded on cassette tape. These messages always come with a gotcha somewhere. Koz

Re: Dalek speaking!

The Mic-In thing was going to be my first guess. Macs do not have a natural, built-in way to record internal sound like many (but not all) Windows machines. We have found that using the SoundFlower add-on software is a good way around this. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tutorial_recording_com...
